2025-2028 Hans G. Dehmelt and David J. Thouless Postdoctoral Fellowships at University of Washington

The Physics Department of the University of Washington invites applicants to two named postdoctoral fellowship programs. The awards under these programs are intended to support outstanding early career researchers who have recently received or who are about to receive their Ph.D. degree or equivalent. Hans G. Dehmelt Fellowships are available in all areas of experimental and theoretical physics. David J. Thouless Fellowships hosted by the Thouless Institute for Quantum Matter are available in the interdisciplinary areas of experimental and theoretical quantum matter and information.2026-2029 Nomination deadline: September 22 2025. Completed application deadline: October 22 2025. Fellowships are awarded for a period of three years. Appointments must commence before September 30 of the award year. Fellows are provided a salary of $84000/year plus a research fund of $10000 to be used in support of research and professional travel during their Fellowship. A relocation incentive of $3000 is provided to assist with moving expenses. The positions are full time and have a 12-month service period.Nominees are required to have obtained or have completed all requirements for the degree of Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in a relevant field before the start of the appointment. They cannot have had more than 24 months of postdoctoral experience from other institutions at the time of appointment. They may not hold a paid or unpaid position on the UW Seattle campus at the time of nomination or throughout the application and award cycle. Those who are non-US citizens must show eligibility for obtaining J-1 Scholar visa status for the duration of the fellowship. Non-US citizens will be required to prove English language proficiency prior to award.
