Community Health Worker / Behavioral Intake Counselor

Arkansas Independent Assessment Program

Locations: Trumann/Osceola or Pine Bluff area!

Pay: $20–$22/hour + Mileage Reimbursement

Start Date: April 20 Training Class


The Arkansas Independent Assessment Program is seeking Community Health Workers / Behavioral Intake Counselors to conduct field-based assessments for individuals receiving Medicaid services. This role plays a critical part in helping individuals with behavioral health needs or developmental disabilities access the services necessary to maintain independence and improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person assessments with Medicaid beneficiaries in homes, provider offices, hospitals, or community locations
  • Evaluate medical, behavioral, and psychosocial needs to determine appropriate services
  • Document assessments in real time using program systems and provided technology
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Manage a daily schedule of field appointments and travel within the assigned region
  • Collaborate with supervisors and program staff to ensure accurate and timely completion of assessments

Assessments typically take 75 minutes for behavioral health and 90 minutes for developmental disability evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
  • Behavioral Health Track: Minimum 1 year of experience working directly with the mental health population
  • Developmental Disabilities Track: Minimum 2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Experience working face-to-face with these populations is preferred

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel daily within the assigned region
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Windows-based systems
  • Ability to carry 5–10 lbs of equipment and drive to client locations
  • Must pass background check, drug test, and TB screening

Schedule

Monday – Friday

7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Tuesdays start at 7:00 AM for training meetings.

Training is approximately 2–2.5 weeks, primarily virtual, followed by field shadowing. Equipment including a laptop, hotspot, and cell phone will be provided. Mileage is reimbursed from the first mile traveled.
