About the RoleThe Fire Protection Engineer will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and VA staff to review designs, oversee construction activities, manage documentation, support code compliance, and help ensure project quality and safety within active medical facilities.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide fire protection engineering expertise during design, procurement, construction, and post-construction phasesReview drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and change orders for compliance with codes and VA standardsSupport the development of project schedules in MS Project or PrimaveraConduct field inspections and verify installation of life safety and fire protection systemsLead construction progress meetings and provide technical recommendationsReview and track cost estimates, contract documents, and project budgetsEnsure adherence to NEC, NFPA, IBC, and other regulatory requirementsWork collaboratively with government project managers, A/E firms, SME teams, and construction contractorsPrepare detailed written reports, assessments, and project documentationQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil)Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferredMinimum 6 years of experience in fire protection engineering, life safety systems design, or code complianceExperience with federal, commercial, or healthcare construction projectsDemonstrated ability to manage multiple active construction or renovation projectsStrong knowledge of construction methodology and federal building standardsExperience developing government cost estimates and tracking project costsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
