Security Sensitive Position?:YesHours of Work:8:00 AM - 5:00 PM M-FPosting Number:TSU203600Official TSU Title:Academia and Health Services Research Postdoc Fellow IIGrant Title:Academia and Health Services Research Postdoc Fellow IIJob Description Summary / TWC Summary:JOB SUMMARY:The Academia and Health Services Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at Texas Southern University provides postdoctoral research scientists in natural, public health, or behavioral sciences with the foundational scientific and career development training necessary for a successful career in academia and health services research. This position is for an individual after completion of a 12-24 months initial post-doctoral fellowship. This is a 12-month fellowship program. The fellow will receive research training and individualized one-on-one research mentoring, supported by a multidisciplinary team of investigators with expertise in social, behavioral, public health, and clinical aspects of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research. This is a full-time research training experience that includes opportunities to conduct basic, clinical, social, and/or behavioral research, especially on maternal-child health problems and multiple factors (individual, social, environmental) that contribute to the health conditions. The ideal candidate for this position will be an individual who has completed a doctoral degree with the skillset to conduct social, behavioral, or environmental studies and a desire to pursue an academic career. The objectives of the fellowship are to train the fellow to become an independent investigator pursuing an academic position (e.g., Assistant Professor).DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:The Postdoctoral Fellow II is a postdoctoral scientist in health research and academia. The Postdoctoral Fellow II is a highly collaborative, self-motivated, creative person who is adaptable to new processes with the capacity to function independently. The Postdoctoral Fellow II is interested in maternal health and health disparities topics.This is a Grant Funded position.Essential Duties Summary:Research Training and Education (~70%)Participate in formalized research training curriculum and seminarsMaintain up-to-date CITI credentialing and/or other required training for biomedical research.Complete and report research tasks assigned by mentors.Conduct literature search and review research topics.Participate and present in multidisciplinary journal club/ research seminars.Implement a research project under the supervision of research mentor.Plans, prepares, participates, and facilitates focus groups for research project related to maternal health.Engage with the community for the research product to enhance study design, recruitment, and retention.Analyze study findings.Prepare and present research findings at local and national conferences.Prepare and submit manuscripts for publications.Prepare applications for funding, as appropriate to fellow’s research interests and goals.Teaching (~20%)Attend teacher training programs offered by the Teaching & Learning Excellence Center (TLEC)Participate in training on Canvas.Participate in teaching students in the summer high school program and mentoring students in research projects.Review course/evaluation and complete self-reflection to improve teaching skills.Support teaching and learning in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences program through lectures, interactive lessons, and assessments related to biomedical research.Other (~10%)Attend and assist with activities hosted by the MHREACH program.Prepare progress reports and presentation slides for the MHREACH program.Complete and update Individual Development Plan every 6 months.% FTE:1.0Hiring Range:$59,442.00 - $75,788.56Education:Ph.D. in Public Health, Environmental Toxicology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.Required Licensing/Certification:N/AKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Skill in:Demonstrated skills in computer software applications (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Teams, office 365)Ability to work in a team-based environmentConscientious to details in study planning, data collection, and analysisCultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populationsAbility to work independently, collaboratively, and exercise sound judgmentDetail-oriented, ability to problem-solve, and decision-makingMultitasking and time managementExcellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal skills and public speaking skillsDemonstrated experience in effective conflict management and resolutionAbility to:Independent use of technology, virtual meeting platformsAbility to learn and adapt to new processesAble to write scientific manuscripts and prepare posters for presentationAbility to adhere to organizational objectivesWork Experience:Additional training or certification in public health or related fields is preferred.Working/Environmental Conditions:Routine office environment, sitting or standing in one location much of the timeWillingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the programWorks closely with direct report to complete assigned tasks and activities in researchSome travel locally and to surrounding counties in the greater Houston area is expected for the implementation of the research project (~10%)UA EEO Statement:It is the policy of Texas Southern University to provide a work environment that is free from discrimination for all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, individuals with disability, sexual orientation, or protected veteran status in its programs, activities, admissions or employment policies.
