DescriptionThe Haslam College of Business (HCB) Undergraduate Programs Office provides comprehensive academic advising services for approximately 9800 undergraduate students. The college has a collaborative advising team focused on assisting students in developing and implementing sound educational plans consistent with their values and academic and career goals.The Academic Advisor position is an exempt 12-month full-time non-tenure track staff role that provides an exciting opportunity to be a part of UTs strategic advising plan that integrates academic and career advising with self-exploration leadership development and experiential learning.The number of honors students enrolling in the Haslam College of Business continues to grow and we are specifically seeking an academic advisor interested in advising this specific population. The successful candidate will be part of a team of honors advisors dedicated to supporting this growing population. ResponsibilitiesDevelop knowledge and understanding of the HCB undergraduate curriculum majors minors and collaterals/concentrationsAssist students in the exploration of their goals interests strengths values and concerns through positive open-ended questions and intentional advising strategiesEducate students about curricular requirements academic standards and academic milestones related to the business degreeAssist students throughout their undergraduate experience in developing academic plans that meet goals and future aspirations.Communicate effectively with assigned advisees and explain university and college academic policies and proceduresTeach students how to evaluate degree progressRefer students to college and campus resources programs and support systems that promote academic success career development experience learning and engagementFacilitate the petitioning process for students pursuing curriculum exceptionsUtilize technology that supports advising practice (such as Banner DARS Navigate/Salesforce other IT sources and internet programs etc.)Conduct first-year and transfer student orientation advising sessionsTeach section(s) of BUAD 100/107 a seminar course in the Haslam Leaders series curriculum designed for first-time freshmenEstablish a professional development plan in collaboration with supervisorQualificationsRequired QualificationsEducation:Masters degree (or degree can be earned within one academic term of employment)Experience:Advisor 1:Experience in working with a diverse group of students in a collegiate settingExperience in advising and/or student development. Examples:advisinggraduate assistant or practicum mentoring and/or academic coaching.Preferred experience in academic advising in higher educationSenior Advisor:2 years of professional experience working full-time in an academic advising or related position at the college/university levelInvolvement in a professional association related to academic advising/student developmentActive engagement within a campus communityKnowledge Skills Abilities:Advisor 1:The ability to relate effectively to a diverse university community (students faculty staffalumniand parents)Strong written and oral communication skillsAppropriate computer and IT skillsDemonstrated organizational skills and ability to handle simultaneous projects.Senior Advisor:The ability to relate effectively to a diverse university community (students faculty staff alumni and parents)Proven written and verbal communication skillsAbility to utilize IT related to advising (ex: Banner EAB Navigate DARS other IT sources and internet programs related to advising)Demonstrated knowledge of academic advising and student development theories and approachesProven best practice approach to academic advisingKnowledge of federal state university and college policies and curricular requirements.Skills in communication judgment research and processing dataWork LocationLocation: Knoxville TNOnsiteCompensation and BenefitsUT market range: MR 8Find more information on the UT Market Range structurehereFind more information on UT BenefitshereApplication InstructionsTo express interest please submit an application with the noted below attachments.
