Our small but industrious staff works in five divisions: Financial Reporting Office Executive Management Finance Office Financial Systems Budget Analysis and Internal Control. BFM has a history of producing leaders in state government. Many department secretaries commissioners division directors agency finance officers and high-level accountants started at or spent parts of their careers with BFM.Position Summary:The Bureau of Finance and Management (BFM) is seeking a highly skilled professional to join our team in the role as an Accountant III or IV. The Ideal Candidate Will Have:For the A3 classification: a 4-year Accounting Degree and 3-5 years of progressive experience equivalent to Level 2 of the Accounting Job Family OR a 4-year Accounting Degree and total of 4-7 years cumulative experience in accounting.For the A4 classification: a 4-year Accounting Degree and 3-5 years of progressive experience equivalent to Level 3 of the Accounting Job Family OR a 4-year Accounting Degree and 7-12 years cumulative experience in accounting.Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of: Microsoft Excel Query and Word and other desktop tools;governmental (fund) accounting;Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements;Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Governmental Auditing Standards;governmental fiscal administrative processes.Ability to:communicate information clearly and concisely;work within a team environment;establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;pay close attention to details.Additional Requirements: To be considered please attach your cover letter and resume.This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.This position is eligible for Veterans Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.The State of South Dakota does not sponsor work visas for new or existing employees.
