Accounting Manager at TechTown Detroit

TechTown is Wayne State University's entrepreneurship hub. We empower Detroit-based startups and local businesses by providing resources, collaborative workspace and education for entrepreneurs that will further accelerate inclusive economic development across Detroit.
About the Opportunity
TechTown is comprised of three legal entities: 1) TechTown (non-profit), 2) TechOne Holding (for-profit co-working and tenant building), and 3) Ops+ (for-profit business service organization). TechTown Detroit is seeking an Accounting Manager to manage the accounting operations of TechTown and Ops+, working closely with the Sr. Director of Finance and collaborating with team members who support TechOne Holding, Financial Services for Ops+ Clients, and Grant Compliance.
This position will be responsible for transactional activities and the preliminary presentation of financial statements for TechTown and Ops+ and Consolidation.
The Impact You Will Make
Disbursements and Receipts Management:
- Process vendor invoices for TechTown and Ops+ in the organization's Accounts Payable system (AP), including 1099 contractor administration, and ensure appropriate documentation.
- Ensure synchronization between the AP system and the general ledger.
- Process Ops+ Clients and TechTown Non-Profit Invoices/Grants with documentation, invoice posting, grant tracking/projects, and cash receipts.
- Collections Management.
Payroll and Journal Entries:
- Post bi-weekly payroll and allocation journal entries into the accounting system.
- Liaison with the HR department for payroll and benefit-related expenses.
Reconciliations:
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly account reconciliations.
- Assist with the reconciliation of intercompany transactions.
Monthly Close:
- Perform accruals as necessary.
- Perform monthly journal entries related to revenue recognition.
- Prepare preliminary financial statements.
- Prepare a preliminary schedule of restricted net assets.
- Intercompany Management and Settlement.
- Assist in the Consolidation.
Internal Controls and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with audit and internal control policies through proper documentation.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining internal controls.
Collaborative Partner
- Work with team members in developing a cross-organizational finance team to serve both internal and external clients.
What You Will Bring to the Table:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- 5-10 years of experience in accounting, including general ledger maintenance and accounts payable.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong leadership skills.
- Commitment to supporting the vision and mission of TechTown Detroit.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly, perform under pressure, and work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented and customer service-focused.
- Strong preference for candidates with nonprofit organization experience.
- Preference for a candidate with public accounting experience or a CPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, or similar financial software.
Salary:
The budgeted salary range for this position starts at $80,000 and may be adjusted according to qualifications and experience.

Work Arrangements:
TechTown Detroit is currently on a three-day-a-week in-office hybrid model, which would also apply to this position. Some scheduled in-office days require an in-person collaborative meeting, and team members can schedule their remote days around those days.
