We offer competitive pay and the opportunity to work on challenging projects with practical on-the-job experience. As a summer intern youll work right alongside Milliman consultants who are leading experts in the property and casualty insurance industry including those in senior management. Youll be welcome at professional staff meetings department meetings and a variety of practice-wide and intern-specific social events.Over 10 to 12 weeks youll gain exposure to a variety of actuarial functions including pricing model building reserving product development and forecasting concluding with the opportunity to present to your Milliman colleagues. Youll also receive on-the-job mentorship from experienced actuaries and actionable feedback to grow in your career.We believe that the actuarial skillset has important applications across both our traditional actuarial work and our work supporting new and developing markets. As such we are committed to developing a pipeline of actuarial talent and future leaders of the firm through exam support and interaction with senior colleagues.Responsibilities will include:Perform data analysis using Excel VBA SAS R Python and proprietary Milliman programs to assist with consulting for various life insurance work areasParticipate in consulting activities that include pricing loss reserving predictive modeling product development financial projections and mergers and acquisitionsResponsible for reviewing the work of peers and assisting with research projects and business developmentCoordinate with consultants and other analysts as a project team to deliver client reports and deliverablesResponsible for a majority of the technical work which may include analyzing data completing actuarial calculations developing and utilizing actuarial models and implementing software solutionsWhat We Are Looking ForProfessional QualificationsPursuing a bachelors or masters degree in actuarial science mathematics or a related major with quantitative courseworkAt least one actuarial exam passedExperience using MS Excel Word PowerPoint Outlook and TeamsExperience using R SAS VBA or other coding languages preferredPersonal QualificationsStrong communication skills both in-person and written in order to successfully collaborate with colleagues and clientsAnalytical thinking skills considering downstream impactCan complete project-related tasks meet deadlines and comply with quality control proceduresDemonstrates professionalism and integrity in all functions of workSelf-starter takes initiative and works well both independently and within a teamAmbition and excitement for professional development in the actuarial fieldIntellectual curiosity about the topics of risk Milliman and the work of our practiceInspired to perform well by the ability to contribute to the success of a project or organizationStrong time management skillsIndividual(s) must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future.Milliman BenefitsWe offer competitive benefits which include the following based on plan eligibility:Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Confidential support for personal and work-related challenges.401(k) Plan When an employee reaches 1000 hours worked within 12 consecutive months they become eligible for a 401(k) plan that includes a company matching program and profit-sharing contributions.Paid Time Off (PTO) Begins accruing on the first day of work; Interns Temporary and Seasonal Employees will earn PTO each pay period based on 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.Transportation Pre-tax savings for eligible transit and parking expensesLocationThis position will be based out of the Milliman office in New York. Candidates hired into this role must be willing to work onsite full-time during the internship.The expected application deadline for this position is December 1 2025.CompensationThis position is expected to be full-time at 37.5 hours per week for 10 to 12 weeks beginning in May or June is a fulltime non-exempt overtime eligible role; overtime eligible after 40 hours of work.The hourly range including locations in New York State but outside of New York City is $21- $37 and the New York City salary range is $23- $41. Both ranges are dependent upon a combination of factors including but not limited to education relevant work experience qualifications skills certifications location etc.This is a full-time non-exempt position.
