Job Title: ACUC Coordinator Location: Tallahassee, FL Regular/Temporary: Regular Full/Part Time: Full-Time Job ID: 61466 Department Laboratory Animal Resources - Office of ResearchResponsibilities This position reports to the Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR) Director/Attending Veterinarian and provides administrative and programmatic support to the Florida State University (FSU) Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC). This is a key position working to ensure that animal research at the University is conducted in accordance with federal regulations and university policies.Responsibilities include, advising and assisting researchers with the submission of proposals and provides instructional and technical support on the use of the Research Administration and Management Portal (RAMP) IACUC module. Managing protocol activities, including conducting administrative pre-reviews on all submissions. Communicating with researchers regarding submission status. May perform moderately complex protocol activities (e.g., grant congruency checks, form revisions, and development of standard library procedures) through consultation with LAR veterinary personnel and ACUC chair. Alerting the LAR Director of business and process issues for review and resolution. Facilitates enrollment in the FSU Occupational Health Program (OHP) and provides training assignments to personnel. Verifies personnel completion of enrollment and training.Makes arrangements for ACUC activities, ensures posting of meeting materials, attends meetings to record accurate minutes, and prepares draft minutes, proofreads, routes for editing, tracks status, and finalizes. Post-meeting duties include execution of committee decisions, modifies and distributes policy documents, and prepares and sends correspondence to researchers. Schedules semi-annual facility inspections and program reviews. Notifies researchers of deficiencies and corrective actions. Maintains documentation of evaluations and generates and submits all post-evaluation reports and correspondence in a timely manner. Maintains accurate and complete electronic records of approved animal activities and ACUC deliberations and actions. Tracks and records serious adverse events or subject welfare incidents. Responsible for completing comprehensive and organized records and reports dealing with complex issues regarding animal research. Collects data and prepares report for internal use and for regulatory and accreditation agencies (OLAW, USDA, AAALAC) as directed by LAR Director.Provides guidance to faculty, staff, students, and other program participants on implementation of policies and procedures in compliance with federal regulatory and University policy requirements. Participates in own professional development to remain abreast of federal, state, and local animal welfare regulations and guidelines, as well as university policies and practices. Contributes to instruction and outreach initiatives, including development and delivery of training modules and materials for researchers and ACUC members. Works cooperatively with LAR Director, ACUC chair, and all LAR personnel to ensure overall success of FSU Animal Care and Use Program. Develops and maintains productive, service-oriented working relationships with ACUC members, LAR personnel, and researchers.Ensures periodic review of ACUC policies and procedures. Monitors and updates ACUC web content as necessary. Participates in activities to support maintenance, testing, and continual improvement of RAMP IACUC. Coordinates with the LAR Business Manager to ensure the LAR main office is staffed and responsive during routine office hours. Assists with routine administrative tasks. Responds to incoming emails, telephone calls and walk-in visits. Other duties as assigned related to the ACUC and administrative operations of LAR.Qualifications Bachelor's degree and two years of work experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of work experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)Valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) certification. An incumbent without certification must achieve within six months of eligibility. Eligibility requirements are defined by PRIM&R.Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in animal or veterinary science or life-sciences related fieldTwo years of work experience in laboratory animal science, IACUC, or research administration.Working knowledge of IACUC practices and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines related to animal care and use.Familiarity with Huron Research Suite or similar electronic database or system for research administration.Demonstrated knowledge of organizational/University administrative support processes, including scheduling and logistics.Excellent collaborative, judgement, leadership, negotiation, problem solving, and critical thinking skills and willingness to take initiative.Demonstrated ability to interpret policies and guidelines, and to independently resolve problems of ordinary difficulty.Excellent productivity, planning, follow-through and organizational skills.Excellent computer skills and understanding of databases.Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.Excellent timeliness, accuracy and attention to detail.Demonstrated proficiency taking and transcribing notes and minutes and/or formal proceedings.Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining computerized databases and tracking systems.Proficient to advanced computer skills.Contact Info Cassidy Cooksey - [email protected] Information One of the nation's elite research universities, Florida State University preserves, expands, and disseminates knowledge in the sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and professions, while embracing a philosophy of learning strongly rooted in the traditions of the liberal arts and critical thinking.
