The individual selected for the position will provide student instruction in the classroom lab and clinical setting. We champion the development of our faculty and welcome applications interested in teaching in a community college with a dynamic and dedicated faculty. We are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Normandale dental hygiene students have the option to be dually admitted and enrolled at Metropolitan State University to provide access to a BSDH degree.Normandale Community College is striving to achieve racial equity in educational outcomes. Those hired into these positions will be expected to advance this goal through culturally responsive teaching identifying barriers to success for students of color and proposing effective solutions to eliminate those barriers.Teaching responsibilities will include:Teach dental hygiene courses in a variety of formats that include traditional alternative delivery methods and virtual learning environmentsProvide instruction in an inclusive and equitable manner to a diverse student bodyDesign and deliver instruction that incorporates technologies that advance learningProvide quality instruction that incorporates a variety of current teaching techniques and pedagogies that positively impact the student and field of dental hygieneMaintain ongoing professional development activities that support the college mission the field of dental hygiene and the studentActively engage in college service department activities and student supportParticipate in program review and/or accreditation effortsProvide learning activities that promote interprofessional education and collaborative in the health sciences divisionMinimum Qualifications: Education RequirementBachelor degree and a graduate of an accredited dental hygiene programOccupational Experience Requirement Three full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a dental hygienistRecency RequirementOne year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.Professional Requirement Current Dental Hygienist License from the Minnesota Board of Dentistry.To be qualified for this position you must meet all of the minimum qualifications. Those who are invited to interview will be required to provide a teaching demonstration as part of the interview.Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in the field or in a related area from an accredited institution.Instructional experienceAbility to incorporate technology into curriculum delivery to include online instruction and using web-based course management systems such as D2LKnowledge of accreditation processExperience with IPE curriculum development and implementationExcellent written and oral communication skillsFlexibility to teach daytime early evenings or at an off-campus clinicExperience serving diverse and underserved populationsKnowledge of and experience in assessment of student learning outcomesExperience developing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized studentsExperience using multi-modal approaches and studentcentered pedagogy to meet the needs of first generation immigrant and low-income studentsTeaching and Learning Competency Requirementcourse construction (credit course)*teaching/instructional methods (credit course)*student outcomes assessment/evaluation (credit course)*philosophy of community and technical college education (credit or non-credit course)**Faculty shall have a degree in education or three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) teaching experience prior to being hired or shall be required to complete coursework in the above content areas (or their equivalent) prior to being granted unlimited status.*These courses shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have: a degree in education or have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework in the specified teaching and learning content areas or have three years of successful full-time (or equivalent) secondary postsecondary industry or trade apprenticeship teaching experience in the field for which they are being hired. (Procedure 3.32.1 College Faculty Credentialing Part 5 Subpart B.2)** This course shall be waived for individuals who at the time of hire have documented evidence of successful completion of equivalent coursework.
