Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:Early Childhood TeacherReports to: Assistant Head for Teaching & Learning in Early ChildhoodFLSA Status: Salaried, ExemptWork Schedule: Full-time; School yearPosition Overview:Under the supervision of the Assistant Head for Teaching & Learning in Early Childhood, the Early Childhood Teacher (Pre-K or Kindergarten) will plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program to maintain a classroom environment that supports each student’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth and development in accordance with the policies and philosophy of The Lamplighter School. The Early Childhood Teacher will also collaborate with colleagues while maintaining a positive team attitude.Job Responsibilities:Plan, develop, and implement creative, hands-on, and joyful curriculum with the grade level team for use in the classroomCreate a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment for all studentsPrepare and update lesson plans and curriculum maps for assigned subject areasRevise and modify curriculum accordingly throughout the year, as necessaryUtilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students servedCultivate effective professional relationships with students, parents, and colleaguesCreate positive educational climate for students to learn in Attend all required school meetings and public-relations events, including participate in school committees and extracurricular activities as requiredEngage in professional development to stay abreast of current topics in educationFulfill expectations for report writing and assessment of student work and progressUnderstand and support The Lamplighter School commitment to diversity and inclusionPerform all other related duties as assignedRequirements:Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferredExperience teaching in a Pre-K – Kindergarten classroom preferredExperience in designing curriculumJob Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Demonstrate thorough knowledge of teaching practices and a commitment to teaching within a caring, highly academic environmentKnowledge of current trends and research in early childhood learningStrong organizational skillsWillingness to work in a collaborative, team environment Excellent verbal and written communication skillsFamiliar with current effective/research-based technological pedagogical knowledge and practicesPhysical Demands:Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on occasionGrasp, reach, and manipulate objects with hands for an extended period of timePeriodically bend, squat, kneel, twist and reach above the shouldersWork intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and coldDisclaimer: The job responsibilities outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may be amended at the sole discretion of the Head of School.
