We value diverse perspectives and embrace new ideas and are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and student-centered culture.Job Description:Adjunct Faculty-ECE 257 - Practicum 1 Clinical SupervisorThe Early Childhood Education Department is seeking a practicum clinical supervisor to provide mentorship, guidance, and evaluation for teacher candidates during their capstone, semester-long in-classroom experience. This position serves as a critical link between the ECE Department and the field placement site, ensuring that practicum students (aka student teachers) successfully apply theoretical knowledge and develop professional teaching competencies.Duties and responsibilitiesMentor and coach student teachers:Conduct regular observations of student teachers in early childhood settings (birth to grade kindergarten)Provide timely, constructive, and individualized feedback on lesson planning, instructional strategies, classroom management, and interaction with young children.Support student teachers in reflecting on their practice, documenting their work, and growing their professional skills.Evaluate performance:Conduct formal, data-based evaluations throughout the student teaching period, including mid-term and final assessments, based on professional teaching standards.Maintain clear records on student performance involved with the evaluation and grading of student performance.Must be available to work weekday, daytime mornings and have their own means of transportation.Requirements:Required: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and a minimum of 2000 hours (1 year) of work experience in the field and experience working with childrenPreferred: Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related fieldCurrent IL Professional Educator Licensure with Early Childhood Endorsement5+ years of ECE teaching experience in a DCFS licensed child care setting or public school based PK programFamiliarity with Illinois Early Learning StandardsCommunity college teaching experienceAdditional Information:Part-time faculty are paid on a lecture hour equivalents (LHE) basis. For most courses, the LHE is the same as a credit hour. For others, the LHE represents additional work for teaching the class, such as grading papers for Composition classes or teaching a class with a laboratory section (computers, languages, and the sciences); in those cases, the LHE represents a figure higher than the credit hour. All part-time faculty start at the beginning pay rates, regardless of the level and type of experience obtained elsewhere. For the 2025-26 academic year rates are $1221/LHE for faculty without doctorates and $1294/LHE for faculty with doctorates.Part-time faculty advance one step within the salary schedule with the successful completion of 2 fall & spring semesters where 3+ LHEs are taught in each semester.Part-time faculty are hired on a semester-by-semester basis. A reasonable effort is made to assure the assignment of courses to more senior part-time faculty who are fully qualified by virtue of their education, training, work experience as related to current technology and pedagogical techniques, and who have had a history of successful performance at Oakton College.All assignments are conditioned on sufficient enrollment.
