Adult Education Medical Assisting Vocational Teacher at Greater Lawrence Technical School

Instructor(s) for thehour Medical Assistant Training. Reporting to the Director of Grants and Workforce Development the Vocational Teachers role is to help adult students learn career area-related theory and hands-on practical skills to lead students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to gain employment in the career area.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar related or a logical assignment to the position.The purpose will be to prepare adult trainees for entry-level positions as Medical Assistants. Training will prepare students for the NHA CCMA exam and the course will include OSHA online training and CPR / BLS training. Teachers will coordinate student participation in clinicals and will advise workforce staff on eligibility criteria to take the class. Up to 30 hours of job-seeking skills training will be included and will be taught by other staff. Two teachers may co-teach the class.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:A high school diploma is required; a college degree and prior teaching experience preferably in a vocational high school setting or any combination of education and work experience. Five years of recent (within the last seven years) of full-time employment experience directly related to the vocational teaching area is preferred.CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:Valid Massachusetts Chapter 74 Teaching preferred. Certified to Teach Medical Assisting Theory and Practice preferred. State state-issued drivers license is preferred.ABILITY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: REASONING ABILITY: Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limitedstandardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished inwritten oral diagram or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district; skills in oral and written communication is required.WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
