Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Grants and Workforce Development the MLL Learn English Teachers role is to provide curriculum development and direct instruction to adult students who are English Language Learners. The MLL Teacher will work in content areas (English Mathematics Science and/or Social Studies) and in CTE career areas. Specific assignments may change to match the needs of the students.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. Develop a curriculum to prepare adult students for technical training in the specified career area.Serve as lead teacher in MLL classroom settings.Lead the bilingual aide in the classroom to assist in meeting students needsCollaborate with CTE instructors to ensure class content prepares students to study in the CTE technical area.Effectively teach CTE area contextualized English collectively to students with different primary languages utilizing natural patterns of first language learning in teaching English as a second language.Document and convey student progress to studentsWork with staff to arrange for translation and interpretation services if necessary.Implement appropriate record-keeping for all students in the program.Provide job readiness training so students have a resume and interview skills and guide adult students to apply for employment.Any other relative teaching duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Masters Degree preferred; Bachelors Degree in area of major study is required with a minimum of five years teaching experience preferably in a vocational high school setting; or any combination of education and work experience.CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:Valid Massachusetts Teaching Certificate from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in English as a Second Language is preferred.ABILITY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITY: Must possess the ability to solve practical problems anddeal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limitedstandardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished inwritten oral diagram or schedule form.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district; skills in oral and written communication is required.WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
