Job Description
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austins College of Education is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant Associate or Professor level who specializes in the study of artificial intelligence in the development adaption or revision of curricula and/or the development modification or enactment of classroom instructional approaches or models. The successful candidate will have a primary appointment within one of eight program areas within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction: Bilingual/Bicultural Education Cultural Studies in Education Early Childhood Education Language and Literacy Studies Learning Technologies Physical Education Teacher Education STEM Education or Social Studies Education.This search is one of three in a strategic cluster hire initiative developed by the College of Education at UT Austin focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to expand our research and teaching capacity in areas where AI intersects with education health and data science. This interdisciplinary effort seeks to recruit a cohort of scholars whose work explores the ethical equitable and innovative applications of AI across educational and health contexts. The cluster will foster collaboration across departments and with other colleges at UT Austin including partnerships with Computer Science Engineering Health and Public Policy. Faculty hired through this initiative will contribute to shaping the future of education by addressing pressing questions around AI-driven personalization data privacy algorithmic bias and educators utilization of generative AI. This initiative reflects the Colleges commitment to preparing practitioners and researchers to respond to a rapidly changing technological landscape.We seek a scholar whose research examines the applications implications and innovations of using artificial intelligence within EC12 or higher education contexts. A research agenda that would align well with the call would include but is not limited to studies that examine how one or more generative AI tools are being used in classrooms; how educators can learn from what children youth and educators are using generative AI tools out of school; and the use of generative AI to reimagine the nature or process of curriculum design assessment or teaching. We welcome applicants whose scholarship reimagines the future of education through generative AI while remaining grounded in the lived experiences cultural knowledge and epistemologies of learners and communities. We are particularly interested in candidates who are engaged in preparing the next generation of teachers who will be able to use various AI tools to create learning experiences that are meaningful for all learners. Successful applicants will show potential for or use findings from their research in their departmental teaching and service and show evidence of an interest in participating in existing or creating new interdisciplinary collaborations that explore innovative and responsible uses of generative AI.
