The Apple Machine Translation team is seeking exceptional researchers and scientists to contribute to the development of the next generation of core machine translation (MT) technology and large language model (LLM) technologies. Description

Multilingual tasks, particularly Machine Translation, have advanced significantly due to the development of multilingual Large Language Models. The Apple MT organization is dedicated to researching state-of-the-art approaches to Machine Translation and Multilingual Large Language Models, as well as applications of this technology. These applications include the Translate app, Safari web page translation, and system-wide translation. We are seeking research scientists and engineers with a passion for applied research in the field of Multilingual Large Language Models and Machine Translation. Your role will involve investigating novel modeling and learning approaches and evaluation methods. As a member of the core modeling team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of language technologies and contribute to the advancement of LLM and MT technology to address real-world challenges. An ideal candidate should possess exceptional oral and written communication skills and demonstrate a collaborative approach. A track record of impactful contributions to the field of LLM, MT, or related disciplines is highly preferred for senior researchers.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 3+ year experience in machine learning and NLP including model training, inference, Large Language Models and neural machine translation, language modeling, sequence-to-sequence models, etc.
  • Experience developing AI/ML systems at scale in production or in high-impact research environments.
  • Knowledge with common deep learning toolkits including JAX, PyTorch or Tensorflow.
  • Passionate about machine translation, large language model and natural language processing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in key language technologies, including machine translation, large language models, and natural language processing.
  • The ability to formulate research problems, design, experiment, and implement solutions in programming languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, and Bash scripting.
  • The design and deployment of real-world, large-scale, user-facing machine translation or large language model systems.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
