Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: Hourly DOEKitchen AssistantReports directly to the Director of Operations and Finance and serves as a member of the kitchen team.High school diploma is required; Degree or certificate in food service production is given preference.Scheduled for 190 eight-hour school and in-service days August through May (.73 FTE)Summary of PositionAs a member of the Kitchen Team, you will need a passion for helping to prepare healthy lunches for the staff and students of Abundant Life Christian School. The Kitchen Assistant is also responsible for several day-to-day kitchen cleaning, maintenance and restocking tasks. Total enrollment of the school is approximately 400 students.Spiritual QualificationsBe a spiritually mature and growing Christian who is active in his/her Christian life, able to serve as a positive Christian role model in speech, actions and attitudes (both on and off campus) and model a consistent daily walk with Christ.Be a servant leaderMust enjoy working with young peopleFollow the Matthew 18 principle in interactions with faculty, staff and studentsBe willing to pray for ALCS regularly.Please review our Statement of Faith (click to review prior to completing application)Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesExperience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant or food-service related environmentFamiliar with best practices, health and safety standards in the kitchen industry as it relates to food preparation, food storage, and kitchen operationTime management and ability to multitaskCollaborative attitude with emphasis on excellent service to staff and students of the schoolProblem solving capability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environmentFamiliar with kitchen production records and standard portion sizing conversion chartsFamiliar with use of commercial dishwasher, ovens and other equipmentAbility to lift 50 lbs and maneuver set-up of cafeteria is requiredAble to stand for most or all a 6-8 hour shift.Key ResponsibilitiesAbility to collaborate with other kitchen team members to efficiently execute quality school lunches according to published menusResponsible to assist in the preparation food in a timely fashion while ensuring adequate servings are prepared and minimizing food waste to the extent possibleAssist with kitchen inventory and ingredients ensuring that supplies, coolers and dry goods are stocked weekly and that necessary food and supplies, based on menus, are available each weekAssist with a first-in, first-out food rotation system and verifies all food products are properly dated, organized and stored for quality assurance.All kitchen team members are responsible daily to assist with cleaning dishes and returning them to appropriate storage areasResponsible for turning on the dish machine and draining/sanitizing dailyReceive direction and collaborate with Kitchen Coordinator on, but not limited to, delivery of food, serving sizes, and production record maintenanceOther DutiesThis is not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required and this job description is not intended to limit or in any way modify the right of any supervisor to assign or direct the work of any employee under his/her supervision.
