DescriptionThis position serves as Annex Assistant in the Logistics and Access Services Department. Logistics and AccessServices is a newly reimagined department which aims to remake services to meet current and futureneeds. The Annex Assistant performs accurate and timely retrieval processing and sending of patron and ILL-requested library materials from the off-site library storage facility (the Annex to the Vanderbilt main campus.This position also storage shelving for newly arriving and returning transfers assists with re-shelvingreturned library materials and assists with physical withdrawals of deaccessioned materials.About the Work Unit:The Logistics and Access Services department is based in the Central Library and the Annex and works in a team-based model where responsibilities are shared and planning and decision making are done collaboratively. The Logistics and Access Services department is tasked with developing a forward-looking service model that strategically aligns with the evolving needs of the Vanderbilt user community ensuring relevance and sustainability. Moving beyond routine transactions this department will focus on seamless access exceptional user experiences and transformative projects related to legacy print collections - all with an eye toward defining the future of library access for the next decade and beyond. Positions in this department are intentionally designed to be highly flexible and adaptable to strategic priorities.The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University comprises nine libraries as well as servicedepartments in collections services digital scholarship & scholarly communications information technology and digital services and teaching & learning. The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries are fundamental to the universitys goal of advancing scholarship and learning. We collect preserve and make accessible from a wide variety of resources; we partner with faculty and students to shape research and encourage the development of Informed scholars and engaged citizens.Key Functions and Expected Performance: Prioritizes workflow to meet stated delivery times as well as shares responsibility for assistingunexpected faculty and scholar arrivals. Processes returned library materials including physical re-shelving. Receives and processes transferred library materials into Library Annex storage shelving arrangementsincluding linear footage statistical record-keeping database verification and updating planning and assigninglinear space for new library materials. Responsible for daily facilities inspections and verifications. Monitors electronic compact shelvingequipment and building facilities. Occasionally assists with light-weight furniture shelving and equipmentrelocations within the Library Annex. Assists with physical withdrawals measurement and recording of deaccessioned materials. Maintains statistical accountability. Responsible for accurate verbal and written communication with patrons guests staff and a variety ofservice representatives in regard to all aspects of Annex services. Assigns work and provides onsite supervision of student workers assigned to the Annex facility. Performs other duties as assigned.Supervisory Relationships:This position does not have supervisory responsibility. This position reports administratively andfunctionally to the Manager of Logistics and Access Services.Education and Certifications:Associates degree or higher is preferred.Experience and Skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary. A wide range of computer and technology skills are necessary. Basic understanding of library cataloging systems and management software is preferred. Project management experience is preferred. Ability to push large book trucks as well as rolling and stationary ladders is necessary. Ability to climb ladders to reach up to 12-foot shelves to retrieve and shelve books and boxedmaterials is necessary. Ability to stand for long periods is necessary. Ability to lift 25 lbs. is necessary. Strong communication skills both written and verbal are necessary. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment is necessary. Dependable proactive and able to prioritize tasks effectively is necessary. Flexibility and adaptability to changes in priorities or project timelines is necessary. 1-3 years experience working in higher education or academic libraries is preferred.
