While total patient care is the main objective this position focuses on the testing component of patient care.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMain testing lane responsibilities:Perform biometry testing and evaluate resultsPerform and evaluate keratometryPerform and evaluate A-scans; contact and immersionManual white to whiteDetermine dominate eyePerform auto refraction and auto keratometryPerform corneal topographyPerform pachymetryEstimate anterior chamber depthPerform ECC photographyPerform post-refractive surgery patient work upPerform UBMsAdditional testing lane responsibilities:Evaluating and calculating for IOL powerCalculations for IOL power for abnormal/challenging conditions (e.g. micro ophthalmia sublexed lens siliconefilled eye)Evaluating and calculating for Toric IOLOptimization of A-constantsGeneral Medical: Includes understanding of CPR basic anatomy and physiology systemic disease ocular disease and ocularemergencies.This position is responsible for daily communication with patients fellow technicians and physicians. May provide trainingassistance or may perform general technician duties.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSDemonstrates quality patient service during interactions with patients coworkers and vendors:Exhibits a positive attitude and is flexible in accepting work assignments and prioritiesMeets attendance and tardiness expectationsIs dependable; follows policies and proceduresMaintains professionalism in interactions with patients and coworkersPerforms quality work and consistently exhibits initiativeEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED equivalent required.Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred.Previous specialized testing experience preferred.CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONSCertified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required.Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification preferred.SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGYRegularly uses Ophthalmic equipment/devices per sub-specialty requirement such as keratometer; phoropter; visual acuity measuring/B-VAT; ultrasound unit; specular microscopy unit; corneal topography unit; retinoscope; slit lamp microscope. Other equipment may be used as needed.Telephone computer fax printer and copier.PHYSICALREQUIREMENTSThis role requires a variety ofphysicalactivities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%) sitting (50%) and standing (50%) with regular bending stooping and reaching (2550%). Employees must be able to lift carry push and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential as the role demands constant grasping writing/typing and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuityincluding color depth peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focusis required100% of the time.
