These values can be recalled simply by our name RICE Responsibility Integrity Community and Excellence.Position Summary:The Aquatic Coordinator will serve as a leader within the Recreation Center manage a team of lifeguards and swim instructors provide great customer service to members and participants and maintain cleanliness and order of the entire Aquatic Center.Ideal Candidate Statement:The ideal candidate would have experience in pool management understand the importance of pool safety and operating procedures value teamwork and collaboration have strong work ethic and problem-solving skills. Experience with the day-to-day operations of pools including staffing cleanliness pool filtration and pool chemistry.Workplace Requirements:This position is exclusively on-site necessitating all duties to be performed in-person at the Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center. PerRice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.This position requires frequent work in outside environment including hot summer monthsHandling chemicals for pump room operationsOccasional nights and weekends as neededThis role is classified as an Essential Remote Position. During declared emergencies or crisis events the incumbent is required to continue duties remotely to ensure business continuity. Employees in this role must remain accessible to leadership support critical departmental functions and maintain operations until normal on-site activities resume.Hiring Range: $46000 - $48000 annually based on experience and qualifications*Exempt (salaried) positions underFLSA are not eligible for overtime.Minimum Requirements:Bachelors DegreeOne or more (1) year of professional experienceIn lieu of the experience requirement additional related education above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.Current lifeguard certificationCertified Pool Operator certification or able to obtain within six months of employmentSkills:Advanced problem-solving skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work well under pressure and manage projects simultaneouslyStrong organizational and time management skillsConflict resolution skills initiative and creative thinkingAbility to work independently and as part of a team to meet expected deadlines and schedulesMaintain a professional image and have good written oral and presentation skillsStrong client service orientation and attention to detailAbility to oversee and direct staffKnowledge of database systems and web-based applications as it relates to the departmentPreferences:Masters DegreeLifeguard Instructor certificationEssential Functions:Oversee daily operations and programming of the Aquatic CenterResponsible for hiring training scheduling and supervising lifeguards head lifeguards and swim instructorsManage in-service trainings emergency action plan implementation and student developmentServe as first point of contact for troubleshooting mechanical and chemical systems relating to the pool pump roomDevelop and coordinate aquatic programming including student eventsOversees the development and management of the Learn-To-Swim programAssists the department with evaluating the emergency action plan and recommends changes as necessaryAdditional Functions:Recommend improvements to policies and procedures as neededMonitors the effective allocation of resources and adherence to standards for the Aquatic CenterResponsible for teaching classes attending meetings and maintaining the policies and procedures associated with both the Lifetime Physical Activity and Summer Youth Activity Programs.Lifeguard as needed based on staff scheduling and pool hoursRice University HR Benefits: Mission and Values:Mission and Values Rice UniversityRice University is committed to ensuring Equal Employment Opportunity and welcoming the fullness of diversity into our candidate pools.
