JOB DESCRIPTION

The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District ( THPRD ) is searching an Program Assistant II to join our aquatics team. Program A ssistant II ' s perform a variety of tasks in the delivery of programming related to recreation and aquatic centers, community and special events , and fitness.

The Program Assistant position is the entry level role in the Programmer professional series: Program Assistant, Program Coordinator, and Program Specialist. The Program Assistant II will receive general direction from the program specialist or a center supervisor and may provide oversight and lead direction for part time staff. They may exercise independent decision-making within established guidelines and receive occasional instruction or assistance as new situations arise.

The sch edule for this positions is typically 12:00 - 9:00pm Tuesday through Saturday, with flexibility based on season .

  • Prepare and/or proofread a variety of forms, letters, fliers, reports, promotional materials, etc. from rough draft or detailed instruction. Perform data-entry. Research and collect data for special projects and reports.

  • Provide information on the phone, or in person, in response to departmental inquiries, schedules, district services and other general information. Answer the multi-line telephone and direct calls to appropriate personnel and take accurate messages. Attend community events and volunteer events to provide support to program specialists and other staff as needed.

  • Maintain detailed records, verify accuracy of information, research discrepancies and record information to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures .

  • Assist the public with program enrollment.

  • Ensure the safety of program participants and if necessary, provide first aid. Prepare and submit accident/incident reports.

  • Lead or assist with planning and coordination of meetings, special events , facility rentals and/or other programs.

  • Lead or assist in the monitoring and evaluation of program effectiveness in meeting established objectives ; participate with management and community groups in developing program goals, policies and procedures; maintain program records; prepare reports on program operations.

  • Provide training, instruction and lifeguarding services.

  • Ensure that chemistry readings are completed regularly and communicate concerns to the pool operator and center supervisor.


Knowledge of:

  • Tools, materials, and equipment needed in support of daily operations of swimming pools.

  • Basic principles of supervision and staff and volunteer development.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the applicant with the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum qualifications for the Program Assistant II (Aquatics)

  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade,
  • Three (3) years of general clerical experience, including public contact and lead work experience.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or equivalent
  • Valid Oregon Driver License and good driving record, depending on functional area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with programming area
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification, preferred
  • Bilingual and multilingual skills

Tentative schedule for this recruitment

  • Mid-April - Initial review of applications
  • Middle to the end of April - Interviews, which may include phone screen, practical assessment, panel interviews, and/or a final hiring interview
  • Early-to-mid May - Start date

This recruitment will establish an eligibility list for current and future vacancies for Program Assistant positions in the Aquatics Department. The eligibility list will be active for six months.

Compensation details: .88 Yearly Salary
