Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Title: Aquatics Assistant ManagerLocation: Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center in Chula Vista, CAReports To: Aquatics Manager Employment Type: SalariedSalary: $70,000-72,000/yearJob Summary: Innovative Attraction Management is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aquatics Assistant Manager to assist in the opening and operation of a brand-new water park in Chula Vista, CA attached to the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in aquatic safety, leadership, and operational management, with a deep understanding of Cal OSHA/DOSH regulations for water park attractions. This role will work closely with the Aquatics Manager to develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests.The Aquatics Assistant Manager must hold a current StarGuard ELITE Instructor Certification, or comparable lifeguard instructor certification from a nationally accredited lifeguard training program, and possess the ability to lead, train, and inspire a team of lifeguards. This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive approach to safety, operational efficiency, and team development.Key Responsibilities:Safety & Compliance:Ensure compliance with all Cal OSHA/DOSH regulations and industry standards for water park attractions.Assist in the development and implementation of lifeguard operating guidelines, emergency response protocols, and safety procedures.Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.Team Leadership & Training:Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training a team of lifeguards.Develop and deliver ongoing training programs, including in-service training, to maintain high standards of lifeguard performance.Provide leadership and mentorship to lifeguards, fostering a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and accountability.Operational Management:Collaborate with the Aquatics Manager to create and manage lifeguard rotation schedules, shift schedules, and break plans.Oversee daily lifeguard operations, ensuring proper coverage and adherence to safety protocols.Monitor lifeguard performance and provide constructive feedback to improve skills and response times.Liaise with the Gaylord Pacific Resort retail, housekeeping, guest service and engineering departments where applicable.Emergency Preparedness:Develop and implement emergency action plans (EAPs) for all water park attractions.Conduct regular emergency drills and ensure all lifeguards are prepared to respond effectively to incidents.Act as a first responder in emergency situations, providing leadership and direction as needed.Policy & Procedure Development:Assist in creating and updating policies, procedures, and training materials to reflect best practices in aquatic safety.Ensure all lifeguard staff are trained on and adhere to established guidelines.Guest Experience:Promote a safe and welcoming environment for all guests.Act as a point of contact for guest concerns related to safety or lifeguard performance, addressing issues promptly and professionally.Train lifeguards to handle guest complaints with empathy, active listening, and a solution-oriented mindset, ensuring guests leave satisfied.Recognize and reward lifeguards who consistently deliver exceptional guest service, reinforcing a culture of excellence.Administrative Tasks:Manage payroll processes for aquatics staff, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.Develop and maintain staff schedules, including lifeguard rotations, breaks, and shift coverage.Conduct regular audits of operational documentation to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.Maintain accurate records of training, certifications, and performance evaluations.Technical ProficiencyDemonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Outlook for email communication and calendar management.Advanced skills in Microsoft Word for creating and editing policies, procedures, and reports.Strong ability to use Microsoft Excel for scheduling, payroll tracking, and data analysis.Qualifications:Current StarGuard ELITE Instructor Certification or equivalent (required).Minimum of 3 years of experience in aquatic safety, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.In-depth knowledge of Cal OSHA/DOSH regulations for water park attractions (preferred).Strong understanding of lifeguard operations, including rotations, emergency response, and surveillance techniques.Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.CPR/AED and First Aid certification (required).High School Diploma or GED (required)Physical Requirements:Ability to stand, walk, and swim for extended periods.Capable of lifting 50 pounds and performing rescues in water.Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.Benefits Package:MedicalDentalVisionST/LT DisabilityBasic Life401KPTO/Sick TimeWhy Join Us?
