ABOUT THE ROLE

Amrize, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Luteman Operator in our Asphalt division.The asphalt luteman is responsible for hand-grading and fine-finishing asphalt to ensure proper line, grade, and surface quality in accordance with project specifications. This role supports the paving crew by correcting surface imperfections, maintaining consistent material depth, and following all safety and quality standards.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
  • Hand-grade and shape asphalt using a lute or rake to achieve proper line, grade, and cross-slope
  • Assist in fine-finishing around edges, joints, curbs, manholes, and utilities
  • Work closely with the paver and roller operators to ensure a smooth, uniform mat
  • Identify and correct surface imperfections such as segregation, bumps, or low spots
  • Maintain consistent asphalt depth and material distribution throughout the paving process
  • Follow project specifications, layout markings, and quality control standards
  • Adhere strictly to job site safety procedures and traffic control requirements
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and serviceable condition
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Required Work Experience: Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience as an asphalt luteman in the paving industry
  • Travel Requirements: Daily travel required, Must have reliable transportation
  • Proven ability to hand-grade and fine-finish asphalt to meet line, grade, and slope requirements
  • Strong understanding of asphalt paving procedures, materials, and quality standards
  • Knowledge of job site safety practices and traffic control procedures
  • Physically capable of performing labor-intensive work in outdoor environments
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high-quality workmanship
  • Conduct daily pre-operation inspections and basic equipment maintenance
  • Identify and address minor surface imperfections during compaction
  • Follow safety procedures and traffic control requirements at all times
  • Maintain clean equipment and work areas at the end of each shift
  • Physical Strength and Endurance: Capable of performing physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, and working outdoors in


Additional Requirements:
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
