Asphalt Screed Operator $20-$25/hr at Earnest Contracting

The Screed Operator is responsible for operating the screed from a standing position on a platform attached to the paver or walking alongside. They use the screed to lay asphalt material to project specifications including but not limited to depth, width and grade. They must have an eye for detail and be able to detect and correct defects in surfaces, seams, and edges. Asphalt Screed Operators are responsible for having a thorough understanding of various aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, mix designs, job specifications, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving. Demonstrate motivation to succeed, improve skills, and hold yourself and others accountable.Job Duties Include:Operate valves to regulate material flow at specified rates.Signal the paving machine operator to start and stop operations.Monitor material distribution to ensure even coverage across road surfaces.Adjust screed angle and depth using handwheels.Verify asphalt depth using a depth gauge to ensure compliance with specifications.Perform daily maintenance on tools and ensure proper storage at the end of each workday.Assist in overall job site operations, including:Installing and removing auto paving electronicsAdding or removing screed extensionsPerforming daily preventative maintenance on the paverSetting up and maintaining traffic control aidsChecking and maintaining grade stakesPerform other job duties as assigned.Requirements:3+ years prior experience as a Screwman/Screed OperatorPhysical Requirements: Manually Lift/Carry 25-50 lbs. Stand, walk, sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl for long periods of time.A sound understanding of grades, slope, and paving electronics.Sharp decision-making skills, particularly when under pressure.Ability to perform all required tasks during all weather conditions (hot/cold) and to work extended hours, as needed.Req ID: T1633532
