Cal State Fullerton currently provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2200 students that is safe clean and very convenient. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Assistant Director of Occupancy and Operations (Student Services Professional IV). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity openness flexibility integrity and kindness.The Assistant Director of Occupancy and Operations plays a key leadership role within Housing and Residential Engagement (HRE) overseeing all aspects of the universitys housing application assignment and occupancy management processes. Serving as the primary administrator for the housing management system (StarRez) this position ensures accurate equitable and timely housing assignments for all residential students throughout the academic year and summer terms. The Assistant Director provides work leadership to the Housing Assignments Coordinator and the Administrative Conference Services Coordinator guiding priorities workflows and daily operations related to housing assignments front desk services mailrooms and administrative student staff. Works collaboratively with a wide range of campus partnersincluding Disability Support Services Basic Needs Services Athletics Admissions International Student Services and othersto meet specialized housing needs and support the strategic utilization of residential spaces. The Assistant Director oversees occupancy reporting system audits data accuracy and process optimization to support data-informed decision-making across the department.In addition to operational leadership the role contributes to departmental planning process improvement policy development and communications that enhance the resident experience and ensure smooth year-round housing operations. The Assistant Director provides guidance during student concerns supports institutional emergency response efforts and assists with major departmental programs such as move-in move-out and campus-wide events. Evening and weekend responsibilities may be required based on operational needs. A description of how issues of inclusivityhave impacted you personally or professionally.Essential QualificationsBachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution. Four years of professional student services work experience including experience advising students individually and in groups as well as the analysis and resolution of complex student services problems. A masters degree from an accredited college or university in counseling clinical psychology social work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for two years of professional experience.General knowledge of the problems and methods of public administration including organizational personnel and fiscal management. Knowledge of advanced statistical and research methods. Ability to plan develop coordinate supervise and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population faculty staff and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures activities and of the overall organization.A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Preferred QualificationsMasters degree from an accredited college or university. Housing administration and/or housing assignments experience. Ability to effectively lead and oversee housing operations cultivate and maintain a positive and productive working atmosphere in the department and develop cooperative relationships with other University departments. Knowledge of workplace security and safety as it relates to live-on on call and after hours duty procedures. Ability to work independently plan organize coordinate and perform daily and long-range activities. Ability to exercise initiative and establish priorities. Knowledge of department and University policies and procedures in order to effectively support the operation of the department. Ability to monitor departmental budgets.
