Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:POSITION SUMMARY & OVERALL OBJECTIVESIncluding scope of work and level of independent judgment/discretion.The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting and partnering with the Lead Teacher in developing and implementing a preschool program of activities that promotes the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child enrolled following Wisconsin Childcare Licensing (DCF 251), Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards, Creative Curriculum, and Wisconsin YoungStar standards for ages 6 weeks – 2 ½ years old. The duties and responsibilities will be carried out under the direction of the Lead Teacher and Program Director. Typical shifts are 6:30 am-3:15 pm. The Assistant Teacher is also expected to be flexible and adaptable, taking on other duties to support the organization's overall objectives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe fundamental, crucial job duties are the functions the position exists to perform.Childcare and Development: 50%Assist the Lead Teacher in developing and implementing routines and structures throughout programming hours. Assist in planning and implementing the daily program of activities based on principles of child development following the program’s curriculum. Assist the Lead Teacher in fully implementing IEPs and behavior/medical plans for children with special needs. Encourage and model social behavior and expectations that are developmentally appropriate. Acknowledge feelings with sensitivity and demonstrate appropriate expression of emotions. Assist children with all toileting needs, including diapering if applicable. Demonstrates respect for diversity by providing anti-bias, non-sexist language, images, materials, equipment, and experiences that reflect center and global communities. Conduct smooth and unregimented transitions between activities; use fun songs and strategies for children. Interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully by engaging with children appropriately; speak calmly and courteously in the child's proximity. Always maintain site & sound Supervision of children. Record Keeping and Compliance 40%Always complies with State of WI DCF 251 Childcare Licensing Rules. Follows tracking procedures and maintains accurate tracking records at all times. Follows Child Abuse / Neglect Policy & Procedures. Adheres to agency rules in the Childcare Policy Manual. Complete all record-keeping requirements outlined by childcare licensing and BGCDC policies and procedures. Maintain appropriate reporting according to organization and grant requirements and/or implementation of grant-funded programming through implementing activities as specified by grant expectations. Maintain a Safe Environment: 10%Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean environment. Assist the Lead Teacher in organizing and maintaining site and equipment. Ensure that the building, playground, and classroom are maintained in a safe, clean, orderly condition and are in good repair. Additional Responsibilities: Ensure a productive work environment by engaging in professional behavior through participating in staff meetings and professional development for up to 40 hours annually. This continuous communication ensures the seamless exchange of information, facilitates discussions on pertinent issues, clarifies guidelines and instructions, provides instruction and guidance, and offers counseling when necessary. External: Externally, you will maintain contact as needed with various community groups, schools, members' parents, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships and assist in resolving any arising issues. By actively engaging with these external partners, you contribute to creating a supportive network and ensuring the well-being of our members within the broader community.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The objective and measurable knowledge, skills, and abilities an employee must possess to successfully perform this job.Ability and willingness to work with infants to five-year-olds in a regulated environment. Uses time management skills effectively. Demonstrates productive and accurate work while meeting deadlines. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Listens actively and accepts coaching willingly. Ability to adapt to changeRequirements:Education and Experience The required minimum allowable education and experience, based on job-related requirements. Include licensing and certifications if applicable.18 years of age or older High School Diploma/GED/HSED Maintain eligibility as a Caregiver by the Department of Children and Families Prior experience working with preschool-aged children Prior experience in a licensed childcare environment preferred Infant/Child CPR & AED certified within 3 months of hire (Training Provided by Organization) Successfully complete the “Introduction to the Childcare Profession” Course work within 30 days of starting. (BGCDC will provide course work)
