Job Title: Assistant Lab Animal Technician Location: Tallahassee, FL Regular/Temporary: Regular Full/Part Time: Full-Time Job ID: 61461 Department Department of Laboratory Animal ResourcesResponsibilities This position plays an integral role in ensuring research animals and facilities are maintained consistent with exemplary standards of animal care. This position is primarily responsible for performing routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper function and maintaining sanitary conditions. The incumbent will operate mechanical washers and ensure cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order; Perform routine start-up and shut down procedures; Operate autoclaves to sterilize or decontaminate caging and equipment; Assist in receiving and storing materials, food, and supplies; and transport animals, caging, and supplies between animal rooms and facilities, requiring a valid Driver's License and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.This position is responsible for providing diligent and responsible animal care, including but not limited to feeding and watering animals, changing and cleaning cages, sanitizing equipment and facilities, and assisting with the technical procedures including record keeping, animal identification, preparing diets, etc.This position requires understanding and compliance with departmental and University policies and procedures, as well as the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and regulations set forth in the United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and Regulations, as well as OSHA standards, other applicable federal and state regulations, and departmental standard operating procedures when working with hazardous agents, animals, and power equipment.Qualifications High school diploma/equivalent and two years of experience.
