Our top-tier benefits and great retirement packages can help you build a rewarding career and lasting future with the State of Illinois.Position OverviewThis position is accountable for testing inspecting and reporting of various materials used on construction projects for state highway improvements within the district as well as providing engineering assistance to the Materials Section.Essential Functions Ensures that materials used on highway and bridge construction and maintenance projects comply with applicable specifications.Inspects samples tests and reports on materials incorporated into highway and bridge construction projects.Provides technical assistance and develops solutions to engineering problems within the section.Assists with engineering responsibilities within the section.Reviews and completes material documentation in Construction and Materials Management System(CMMS) in an accurate and timely fashion.Analyzes processes within the section for recommending changes which would improve the existing procedures.Performs all duties in compliance with the departments safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications Completion of a bachelors degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college OR masters degree in engineering or Engineer Intern license in the state of Illinois.37 months of civil engineering experience.Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and the application of engineering techniques to the design construction and maintenance of public works.Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with departmental staff and the public.Ability to operate engineering field and office instruments and physical laboratory testing equipment.Good oral and written communication skills.Good problem solving and decision-making skills.Conditions of Employment Valid drivers license.Extensive travel within the district and occasional statewide travel with overnight stay.24/7 emergency call availability.Overtime as assigned and occasional shift schedule changes to work overnight shifts.Heavy/repetitive lifting up to 50 pounds.Ability to work in confined spaces climb steep terrain wade in water deal with animals insects rodents snakes perform outdoor work in a variety of conditions including but not limited to inclement weather (hot cold wet windy muddy) and active construction sites and roadways open to traffic.Successful completion of pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol screening.Successful completion of a background screening.This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission.
