Position: Assistant or Associate Professor Faculty Position in MusicFaculty Unit: Culture, Language, and Performing ArtsProgram: MusicClosing Date: Review of applications will begin 1/7/2026Job Type: Full-timeJob Category: FacultyStatus: OpenQualifications:A doctorate in music is required (PhD, DMA, or DMus), ABD near completion will be considered (degree must be completed by start date). Foreign equivalent degrees from a nationally accredited institution accepted.As an educational institution affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Church), BYU–Hawaii prefers to hire qualified members of the Church in good standing, as authorized under 41 C.F.R. § 60-1.5 (a)(6). To be eligible for employment, applicants who are members of the Church must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend and receive a clearance from the Church’s Ecclesiastical Clearance Office.Responsibilities:Teaching requirement is typically 30 semester credit hours per year over three semesters in the following subject areas/courses:Music Theory, Music HistoryIn addition, ability to assist with one or more of the following: 1) vocal-studies training (e.g. applied voice in classical, musical theatre, and CCM styles), 2) development of Pacific or Asian music program (e.g. directing an ensemble), or 3) music technology and sound production.Scholarship, creative endeavor, ongoing professional development, and university service are required.BYU-Hawaii’s primary focus is undergraduate learning and teaching.
