Assistant Principal-Elementary School
The Elementary Assistant Principal assists the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and families. The Assistant Principal works closely with the building principal to implement an instructional vision and focused plan for improving student achievement while narrowing the disparities between the highest and lowest-performing students. Supervises and supports professional educators in strengthening their instructional practices. Creates a continuous learning community for all staff and students by fostering a culture of high expectations and providing all students with equitable access to high-quality and culturally relevant instruction. Builds strong partnerships with families and the community; creates a safe, welcoming environment that reflects and supports the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population and communities served. The Assistant Principal acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal's absence from the school.

Previous successful teaching experience is required. Experience working with elementary students.
Must be eligible for or properly licensed by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission for assignment as an administrator. A valid Oregon driver's license is required.
Ability to interact appropriately with teachers, staff, community members, and students. Focuses on solving conflict; maintains confidentiality; Contributes to building a positive team spirit.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing fluently in English. Preference may be given to applicants fluent in English and Spanish. Ability to present information and respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small and large group situations to students and other school staff. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and area. Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use database software, e-mail, internet software, spreadsheets, teaching software, and word processing software.
Provides strategic direction and operational insights. Knowledge of and experience with supervisory methods and practices in leadership and instructional frameworks. Skills and ability in organization, time management, task prioritization, and record keeping. Exemplary skills in written and oral language with the ability to communicate respectfully, clearly, and concisely by telephone, in person, and in written form. Interprets school district policy accurately and makes appropriate decisions. Knows effective educational practices. Knows school and district procedures for dealing with students, staff, and the public. Cooperatively and effectively works in a team environment, including coaching and development. Demonstrates effective managerial and leadership qualities. Directs activities of subordinates appropriately. Cultivates and maintains positive and effective working relationships with staff and the public. Establishes rapport and empathy with employees at all levels. Collects and accurately analyzes relevant data. Is flexible, dependable, responsive, and creative. Solicits and accepts staff and supervisor constructive feedback on proposals. Develops alternate solutions to problems. Writes and speaks fluently.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must often stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to speak clearly to be understood by others and identify and understand the speech of another personemotional stability to work effectively under pressure and control all aspects of the job.
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The employee must handle interruptions and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment. The employee may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens and subject to temperature fluctuations, fumes, odors, and dust.
