MCC is committed to transforming lives as we educate, challenge, and support all students as evident in our strategic plan.Job Description:Title: Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator, Medical Assisting Unit: Full-Time MCCC Day Faculty Department: Medical Assisting Department, Health Division Reports to: Dean of HealthDate: December 5, 2025 General Summary: The Coordinator of Medical Assisting is a full-time faculty position that provides academic leadership and administrative oversight for the Medical Assisting Certificate, program. This role ensures full compliance with the Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Medical Assisting established by the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), while supporting high-quality instruction, faculty development, curriculum alignment, and student success.The coordinator is responsible for program planning, implementation, systematic assessment, accreditation reporting, supervision of faculty and staff, oversight of lab and externship operations, community partnerships, advisory board leadership, and overall program quality and sustainability.Duties and Responsibilities:Program Administration and Accreditation ComplianceTeach the equivalent of twelve credits per semester and fulfill all contractual requirements.Partner with the Dean of Health for scheduling and staffing of all Medical Assisting sectionsEnsure the Medical Assisting Program maintains full compliance with all CAAHEP and MAERB Standards, including curriculum alignment, practicum requirements, and student learning outcomes.Serve as the primary contact with MAERB, CAAHEP, and institutional accrediting bodies.Prepare and submit annual reports, self-studies, and required accreditation documentation for all programs.Coordinate and document the systematic assessment of course and program learning outcomes, including retention, completion, job placement, and certification exam outcomes.Ensure all policies and procedures are communicated effectively, support high-quality instruction and meet accreditation and institutional expectations.Ensure program documentation, assessment records, and outcome reporting remain current and compliant.Curriculum and InstructionOversee curriculum development, evaluation, and revision for all programs to ensure alignment with:MAERB Core CurriculumIndustry standardsMCC academic requirementsEnsure all syllabi reflect current accreditation, industry expectations, and institutional standards.Coordinate selection of textbooks, instructional materials, and laboratory equipment consistent with program outcomes.Maintain laboratory facilities and ensure safe, effective, and current instructional environments.Provide academic leadership and direction to support high-quality teaching and learning in all programs.Faculty Recruitment, Leadership, and EvaluationRecruit, orient, and supervise full-time and adjunct faculty who meet professional, educational, and accreditation requirements.Conduct monthly department meetings to maintain faculty calibration, compliance, and information sharing.Conduct annual adjunct faculty class observations and provide constructive feedback, coaching, and mentorship.Support faculty development in teaching effectiveness, simulation/lab instruction, accreditation expectations, and current health care practices.Participate in the recruitment of a diverse faculty reflecting MCC's student population.Student Recruitment, Advising, and SupportParticipate in recruitment, outreach, and admissions activities, including open houses and high school partnerships.Advise students regarding program requirements, academic progression, externship eligibility, and career opportunities.Ensure students understand policies related to professionalism, academic progression, and program expectations.Collaborate with student support areas such as Advising, Enrollment, Testing, Tutoring, and ACE.Externship / Internship OversightOversee student practicum placements for Medical Assisting in collaboration with Practicum Coordinators.Maintain and strengthen partnerships with clinical and community sites to ensure high-quality supervised experiences.Verify completion of all documentation including competencies, timesheets, evaluations, and regulatory requirements.Ensure all practicum placements meet MAERB requirements and institutional standards.Program Review, Data Analysis, and ReportingConduct ongoing program assessment, including tracking enrollment, retention, graduation, employment, and certification outcomes.Trend and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to inform continuous improvement.Prepare annual program assessment reportsImplement program improvement plans based on assessment findings, accreditation expectations, and advisory board recommendations.Coordinate Assessment Day responsibilities and related activities.Advisory Board and Community PartnershipsMaintain and chair the Medical Assisting Advisory Board, convening meetings at least twice per year.Collaborate with employers, clinical sites, workforce partners, and community agencies to maintain program relevance.Develop and renew articulation agreements with area high schools and four-year institutions.Engage with industry partners regarding externship needs, workforce trends, and program improvement opportunities.Institutional Participation and LeadershipServe on college-wide and division committees, including search committees as appropriate.Participate in recruitment, outreach, and community engagement activities.Manage program budgets, including ordering equipment and supplies for classrooms and labs.Engage in grant development and implementation to support program sustainability, innovation, and equipment needs.Provide leadership for program orientation activities.Support broader Health Division initiatives and institutional priorities as assigned.Additional Administrative and Operational ResponsibilitiesMaintain laboratory facilities to ensure safety, compliance, and instructional readiness.Establish, maintain, and monitor program policies and procedures that support effective, high-quality education.Perform other duties as assigned by the division dean to support departmental and institutional goals.Requirements:Bachelor's degree or higherOne of the following Medical Assistant credentials: CMA (AAMA), NCMA (NCCT), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA), or CMAC (AMCA). Minimum three years of full-time employment in an ambulatory health care setting with clinical and administrative experience. Minimum one year of postsecondary teaching experience including curriculum development, student evaluation, and supervision.Demonstrated understanding of CAAHEP/MAERB accreditation processes and standards.Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and data analysis skills.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree or graduate degree in a related health, business, or education field.Prior experience with program accreditation preparation, self-studies, and site visits.Demonstrated success in building employer partnerships, externship networks, or workforce development initiatives.Experience with curriculum design across clinical, administrative, and online/hybrid instructional modalities.Strong commitment to equity-minded practices, student success initiatives, and inclusive leadership.Additional Information:Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.Salary Range: $58,438 is the starting salary for a full-time faculty position, at Assistant Professor Rank, with a Master's Degree. The Program Coordinator will also receive 1 course release time equivalent to a 3 credit course. The actual salary will be commensurate with academic background and experience.
