The ideal hire should be able to contribute to the HistoryDepartment's intellectual growth and emphasis on interdisciplinary andcollaborative research. Areas of specialization might include abolition,Indigenous histories, health and medicine, labor, culture, or diaspora. Wewelcome candidates whose research employs methodologies that complementthe department's strengths in cultural, intellectual, and legal history. We alsowelcome applicants who incorporate digital history into their scholarship, publicengagement, or teaching. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitmentto teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate students inGainesville, Florida, and maintain a robust research and publishing agendacommensurate with a Research 1 institution. Teaching responsibilities includeintroductory, upper-division, and graduate courses in Brazilian history. Equallyimportant is the ability to contribute effectively to the department's graduateprogram: mentoring graduate students, offering graduate seminars, andchairing and serving on graduate committees (including serving on committeesin other departments). The faculty member in this role will be able to take advantage of the UF Libraries'outstanding Latin American collections, and will have the opportunity to benefitfrom the support, resources and activities of relevant programs on campus,including: the Center for Latin American Studies, Center for African Studies,Center for Arts, Migration and Entrepreneurship, the Center for Humanities andthe Public Sphere, and the Florida-Brazil Linkage Institute (FBLI). UF is alsohome to a robust Portuguese language and literature program, and an activeBrazilian Student Association.
