Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: Assists the Lead Teacher in the implementation of developmentally appropriate educational activities for a class of 8 to 20 children with and without disabilitiesPRIMARY DUTYCaring for the physical needs of the childrenMAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and suppliesResponsible for the daily opening and/or closing duties for the classroom Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing classroom equipment, toys, and supplies according to NAEYC guidelinesResponsible for diapering and toileting children according to NAEYC guidelinesResponsible for the daily safety and supervision of children, utilizing Active Supervision at all timesAssures that the environment, materials and equipment are in good condition and reports problems and unsafe conditions to administrationResponsible for completing developmentally accurate anecdotal notes on a weekly basis for an assigned group of childrenResponsible for completing illness/incident reportsCollaborates and interacts effectively with ancillary personnel (e.g., therapists, Inclusion Coaches, etc.) to include children with disabilitiesActs as classroom lead teacher in the absence of the assigned lead teacherUpholds and represents center philosophy to parents, visitors, and othersAdheres to all policies and procedures as described in the Teacher HandbookMaintains all training requirements, including CPR/First AidPerforms other duties as assignedPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 50 poundsAbility to reach, bend, and stand for long periods of time Ability to lift from floor to chest levelAbility to sit on classroom floor and/or small chairs ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:Reports to and is under the direct and primary supervision of the Curriculum Coordinator of the Lead Teachers’ assigned classroom. The secondary supervisor is the Director of the Children’s Development Program.EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Minimum of Child Development Associate (CDA) requiredMust complete Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification (must be kept up to date) Complete DECAL and NAEYC child care training and additional training specific to curriculum and intervention programs Knowledgeable of “best practices” as it pertains to Bright from the Start: Department of Early Care and Learning licensing regulations, the Creative Curriculum, Quality Rated, and NAEYC standardsMinimum of one year of experience working in a structured educational setting with children from birth to five years old
