Position Title:Associate/Full Professor of Geographic EducationJob Posting Number:2026047TTLJob Location:San MarcosDepartment:Department of Geography and Environmental StudiesPosition Description:The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Geographic Education to begin Fall 2026. The successful candidate will be appointed the "Jesse H. Jones Distinguished Chair in Geographic Education”. We seek applicants with an outstanding record of scholarship in geographic education who are also recognized leaders in the field of geographic education. The position requires the sustained maintenance of an active research agenda, teaching at graduate and undergraduate levels, advising Masters/PhD students, and serving as Director of the Gilbert M. Grosvenor Center for Geographic Education.Required Qualifications:A PhD degree in Geography or a related field.An outstanding publication record in geographic education that is commensurate with an associate or full professor and demonstrates the applicant is well-versed in theories of teaching and research in geographic education.A record of successful grant acquisition and management in the field of geographic education that is commensurate with an associate or full professor at an institution with high research activity.Demonstrated experience providing leadership in geographic education.Evidence of teaching at graduate and/or undergraduate levels.Experience advising Master’s and/or PhD students.Preferred Qualifications:For the Associate Professor rank:Experience with online instruction.Demonstrated experience collaborating with and mentoring K-12 geography educators.Evidence of maintaining an active national and international network of professional geography education collaborators.For the Full Professor rank:Experience with online instruction.Demonstrated experience collaborating with and mentoring K-12 geography educators.Evidence of maintaining an active national and international network of professional geography education collaborators.Successful management experience such as direction of a major grant, research center or other administrative activities including oversight of staff.Application Procedures:To be considered in the initial pool of candidates, complete applications must be received no later than December 1, 2025.
