DescriptionThis position is part of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) which represents The University of Tennessee a statewide system of public higher education. This position will be primarily involved in proactively advising administrators at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) a statewide academic medical center with principal offices in Memphis Tennessee. This position will advise on a variety of matters relating to employment law and academic faculty and student affairs including but not limited to academic policies faculty staff and trainees (residents and fellows) employment policies First Amendment Title VI Title VII Title IX Clery Act FERPA ADA and student conduct. Additionally this position will support Graduate Medical Education across the state. Specific areas of responsibility will be determined based on University and office needs and the successful candidates interests and substantive background.The position is located in Memphis Tennessee and much of the work will be for UTHSC. However responsibilities of the position also will involve advising and traveling to other campuses and institutes in the University system.ResponsibilitiesSpecific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Responsibilities will primarily include proactively advising administrators at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) a statewide academic medical center with principal offices in Memphis Tennessee. This position will advise on a variety of matters relating to employment law and academic faculty and student affairs including but not limited to academic policies faculty staff and trainees (residents and fellows) employment policies First Amendment Title VI Title VII Title IX Clery Act FERPA ADA and student conduct. Additionally this position will support Graduate Medical Education across the state.Provides work direction to assigned paralegal or legal secretary and law clerks.QualificationsJ.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; Tennessee law license or eligibility for Tennessee license; five (5) years of civil practice experience in a law firm or in a corporate higher education or government legal office; record of outstanding achievements as a practicingattorney;excellentacademicrecord;exceptionalanalyticalproblem-solvingdiplomatic and oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple demanding tasks; demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a highly collegial and high-performing environment; highly versatile set of legal skills; pragmatic and objective business acumen and ability to recognize the broader consequences of legal advice; ability to perceive and explaintonon-lawyersthepracticalapplicationoflawandpolicyincomplexsituations;highdegree of personal integrity sound judgment and a commitment to accountability; initiative and intellectual curiosity.Preferred Qualifications:More than ten (10) years of experience in the practice of law; litigation experience; higher education experience.Pay Scale Type:Market Range 20 with salary negotiable within budgetary parameters based on qualifications and experience.Materials Required for Consideration:Letter of application resume and three references knowledgeableofapplicantslegal access the online application please visit:Application Process For full consideration applications should be accompanied by a letter of interest a resume and three professional references.
