JOB DESCRIPTION

Aviation Sheet Metal Mechanic

Located: Mesa, AZ

Pay: $30-37/hr (weekend work differential on top)

Job Description

As a Structures Technician, you will engage in the unique bonding and assembly processes crucial to airframe production. Your primary tasks will include setting up assembly fixtures, drilling, fay sealing, fastener installation, and trimming/fitting components. You will be involved in dynamic and manufacturing operations to ensure the precise assembly of composite parts and structures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble composite parts and assemblies of varying complexities and sizes.
  • Safely and correctly utilize shop tools and machinery, including drills, die grinders, and calipers.
  • Drill a variety of hole sizes in both composite and metal structures, including stack-ups of dissimilar materials.
  • Work hands-on with multiple fastener types, such as Hi-Lite, Hi-Lok, and Composi-Lok.
  • Apply hands-on aircraft manufacturing experience with both composite and metallic airframes.
  • Adhere to set directions and guidelines from team leaders to support collaboration across teams.
  • Provide technical and operational input for assessment and repair/maintenance recommendations.
  • Work on manufacturing assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.
  • Ensure quality and efficiency of installations, including troubleshooting, and may provide guidance in troubleshooting processes.
  • Follow assembly instructions to ensure accurate completion of complex project assemblies.
  • Continuously practice safety behavior and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness and prevention.
  • Work collaboratively to achieve goals and complete assigned tasks.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with aircraft fabrication and assembly or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proficiency in using specialized tools and equipment to assemble or repair aircraft.
  • Ability to identify, install, and remove common aircraft fasteners.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer applications to follow manufacturing work instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and models.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in a precision yet manual manufacturing setting strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper drill speeds and feeds for materials being worked.
  • Understanding of hole angularity and the importance of hole tolerances.
  • Proficiency in using hand drills, power feed drills, Jiffy/E-Tech tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Familiarity with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment

You will work in an aircraft hangar with temperature control, though humidity levels may rise due to the nature of aircraft parts. The environment is equipped with necessary technologies and tools to facilitate your tasks effectively. The shifts available are 1st Shift (6 AM - 4:30 PM, Mon-Thur/Thur-Sun) and 2nd Shift (4 PM - 2:30 AM, Mon-Thur), with potential overtime opportunities.

This is a Contract position based out of Mesa, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.
