Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:Position Summary:The purpose of the Behavioral Health Technician is to assist in providing a safe environment for individuals. The BHT answers clients’ questions and assist in adjusting program routine, report any changes in the client’s physical or mental condition. The BHT is responsible for supervising clients during the program with emphasis on client safety and wellbeing.Essential Duties:Records inventory log of all personal belongings, valuables and return ticket. Tickets and valuables to be kept in the safe.Completes required lab requisitions per protocolMonitor clients at all times to include specific rounds and logging clients' whereaboutsDe-escalates AMA and other client problemsParticipate in all staff meetings as scheduledEnsure garbage is disposed of properly throughout the shifts as neededMonitors group room to ensure cleanliness after each activityHands off information necessary for next shift technician after each shift. Maintains logbook for the continuity of care. Participates in shift turnover and ensures that the next shift is aware of pertinent information as it relates to clientsAttend required staff trainingSupervise clients completing the Program with emphasis on safety and well-beingRemind clients of program rules and regulations as necessary and report infractions immediatelyProvide emotional support for clients while referring them to therapy staff to address clinical issuesComplete assigned paperwork in a neat, timely and accurate mannerCommunicate with other staff as necessary to promote quality client careParticipate in maintaining clean, properly supplied and efficient work areasObserve and report safety and maintenance problemsInteract appropriately with clients, showing respect while maintaining boundariesMaintain a professional demeanorExercise sound professional judgement and seek assistance as necessary to effectively manage client behavior to include but not limited to suicidal concerns, issues of trauma Protect privacy of all client information in accordance with facility privacy policies and proceduresTransport clients as neededOther duties as assignedRequirements:Minimum Qualifications:High School Graduate or GED preferredExperience working in substance abuse and/or mental health preferredValid state driving license with no major violations in past five (5) yearsKey Competencies:Must be detail-oriented.Excellent verbal/written communication skills.Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines as well as be flexible and dependable.Strong interpersonal skills.Must have ability to multi-task and manage time effectivelyAbility to work independently and make sound decisionsEmpathetic and non-judgmental approach when working with clients from diverse backgroundsFamiliar with electronic medical records (EMR) systemsWork Environment:This position is required to work in a temperature-controlled environment 80%-90% of the time spent indoors. Potential exposure to violent situations. Potential exposure to airborne/blood-borne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials. Standing, walking, bending, stoop/kneel, reaching, pushing.
