Job DescriptionBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Behavioral Health Technician in the Inpatient Psychiatry department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.With the leadership of the Director and the Clinical Supervisor The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) works with the treatment team to ensure complete coordination of the patient treatment plan from admission through discharge. The BHT utilizes a variety of therapeutic models as appropriate to the clinical situation but primarily has a brief therapy/cognitive behavioral therapy focus. The BHT provides assistance in regard to inappropriate behavior by any patient and works with patients who present a dual problem Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders.The Behavioral Health Technician will facilitate educational sessions structured groups and psycho-educational groups in accordance with the patients plan of care. They will utilize interactive processes which will exceed the expectation of patients physicians families or significant others and provide high-quality cost-effective care and treatment.Essential Job FunctionsDe-escalates patients utilizing CPI techniquesParticipates in application of seclusion/restraints when appropriate; provides monitoring of patients in such situation; completes appropriate documentation including restriction of rights formsProvides supportive care to patients and families.Conducts safety roundsAssists patients in conflict resolutionRole models stress managementEnsures the milieu maintains a therapeutic environmentIncorporates Recovery principles in all therapeutic interventionsDocuments interventions in a succinct and goal directed manner using DAR formatRecognizes and reports abuse/neglect situations as required by lawProvides support sets limits and/or facilitates learning from the situation when providing situational 1:1 interventionsAdheres to group rules and scheduled groups start and end on time.Follows group content outlines in group manual and individualizes groups to needs of current patient populationEngages patients to participate of all patients as appropriate in community meetingsInteracts with parents/significant others to answer programming questions patient progress etcFacilitates assigned groups in ways which encourage and require maximum patient participation and interaction appropriate to functional level of group membersMust have good knowledge of the principles and practice of psychiatric and addiction treatmentCompletes annual department competency checklistRequired QualificationsActive BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)CPI certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hireHigh School diploma2 years prior experience working with patients with addiction issuesPreferred QualificationsBehavioral Health or related experience providing care to patients within at least the last five yearsBachelors Degree in Addiction/ Psychology- Bachelors prepared candidates will receive an additional $1.25 an hour to their base ratePosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: Full-Time 0.9 FTEShift:12-hour shiftsWork Location: OnsiteUnit/Department: Inpatient PsychiatryCBA Code: SEIUWhy Join UsWeve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity.
