Job Description

ABR is recruiting a 2 nd shift Machine Operator for a client in Wausau. The hours are Monday - Friday, 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. The starting wage is $24.83 per hour.

Machine Operator Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  • Responsible for completing set-up operating in conformance with prescribed lock out procedures. Once set-up is complete and producing a quality part, proceeds to guard this operation properly prior to assigning an operator on the job; insuring all obstacles to the operation have been removed. Provide trial pieces for operator review and reference.
  • Sets-up a variety of metal working machines designed to shape, fabricate, and alter, to customer specifications, fabricated extrusions into a variety of individual parts and/or subassemblies.
  • Verifies that each set-up process produces a completed part which meets print specifications. Follows up periodically to verify quality requirements are being met.
  • Notifies lead person and/or supervisor if any part of set-up performs below standard during the 1st piece run. Pays special attention to how material is positioned for efficient removal from cart, keeping walking and non-productive methods to a minimum. Records all parts ran (scrap or run quality).
  • Reads blueprints and job orders so specifications, such as hole locations, dimensioning, and processes are correct. Set-up fixturing, jigs and cutting jigs used in each process. Positions and secures same. Provides quality assurance instruments with each job, such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, to insure quality production.
  • Sets up bender based on traveler and job order/print.
  • Uses hand tools to assemble heads, mandrels and forming blocks according to bending instructions on the drawings.
  • Checks in extrusion material and Webster's it for hardness.
  • Bends 1st piece and checks dimensions, using template, ruler and/or square to determine if dimensions correspond to the print.
  • Takes the first piece produced to QC for run approval.
  • Bends parts for the order and inspects according to the frequency specified by the QC department.
  • Operates cutoff saws to cut ends off of pieces to match the print length.
  • Bands and tags loads when finished.
  • Finishes traveler by making a final piece inspection and count of parts.
  • Cleans up area and machines as required.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and maintains plant housekeeping standards.

Machine Operator Requirements:
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The employee must frequently lift or carry up to 10 pounds, regularly lift or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or carry up to 80 pounds; regularly push up to 75 pounds

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Requires a minimum of 90 days of on-the-job training. Requires the ability to effectively operate bending and forming equipment, along with basic computer skills and a variety of small hand tools. Must be able to use calipers and micrometers. Requires a general knowledge of company products and procedures.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Must be proficient in reading a tape measure and attain a 90% passing rate on a measurement test.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence. Ability to write standard documentation. Ability to interpret blueprints and customer specifications. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and other employees of the organization. Must be able to pass a blueprint and caliper test by the 50th working day from the date of hire.
