Overview The Buildings & General Services (BGS) team in Springfields is seeking a skilled and dependable Institutional Maintenance Mechanic to perform a variety of building grounds and utility maintenance tasks at state facilities. This role is essential to ensuring the safety functionality and upkeep of our buildings and infrastructure.This position will:Perform routine and preventive maintenance on building systems including plumbing electrical HVAC and structural components.Conduct repairs to fixtures equipment and facility infrastructure as needed.Maintain grounds including snow removal landscaping and general outdoor upkeep.Respond to maintenance requests promptly ensuring minimal disruption to facility operations.Operate and maintain tools machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.Assist in special projects renovations and emergency repairs.The ideal candidate will have:Experience in general building maintenance carpentry plumbing or electrical work.Ability to read and interpret technical manuals blueprints and work orders.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Physical ability to lift carry and operate tools and equipment in various environments.A valid drivers license and ability to travel between facilities as required.Candidates must be able to pass a background check. You must apply online to be considered.Environmental Factors Duties are performed at institutional facilities that operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Contact with inmates can be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders lift weights up to 75 pounds and work in cramped wet or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage for which protective clothing must be worn. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. May require possession of a valid drivers license. Emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours can be expected. Some potential for physical injury may be present.Minimum Qualifications Completion of a trade program or technical school in electrical HVAC or plumbing or buildings related field.ORThree (3) or more years of experience in building construction structural maintenance or building repair and maintenance.Preferred Qualifications State licensure at or above the journeyman level in any trade area.One (1) or more years of experience as a team lead or overseeing maintenance projects.Special Requirements IMM Candidates must be fingerprinted and pass a background investigation applicable to the position.
