InternshipDescriptionThe Violence Recovery Program (VRP) is a grant-funded program within the Behavioral Health department offering services to aged 18 survivors of Intimate Partner Violence Sexual Assault and anti-LGBTQ Hate Violence.Under the direct supervision of an Intern Primary Supervisor and existing leadership within the Behavioral Health Department the Violence Recovery Program Student Intern provides counseling support groups advocacy and referrals services to those being served by the VRP within the Behavioral Health Department 24 hours per week for the academic school year from September 8th 2026 through May 15th 2027 exact dates depending. Additional hours for onboarding and orientation will be required between the dates of August 31st and September 4th 2026.Representative Duties:Provides direct clinical services to clients:Using established therapeutic processes provides short-term therapy for VRP clients and co-facilitates 1-2 therapy/support groups for VRP/BH clientsAssists clients in accessing the criminal justice system and/or securing counseling and social services by giving client information and/or contacting service providers directly. Accompanies clients to Court and/or law enforcement appointments as appropriate.Develops and maintains contacts in other assistance agencies; maintains updated referral lists conducting outreach to service providers and community organizations about VRP servicesBuilds a caseload of 10-12 clients overall Offers at least one clinical hour in the morning between 8-10 am or at least 1 clinical hour in the late afternoon/evening (5 or 6 pm) dependent on client needAll clinical hours must be provided from on-site at 1340 Boylston St. though some of these sessions may be conducted via telehealthAdheres to NASW Code of EthicsPerforms and completes clinical documentation/administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner:Documents each client interaction within departmental window of compliance (48 hours) for review and co-signature by Intern SupervisorCompletes session notes assessments and discharge summaries according to department standards and in accordance with Fenway policyProvides consultation to and collaborates with the other health care providers that constitute a clients health care team Participate in Intern Programming:Participates in regularly scheduled individual supervision 1 hour per weekIncluding audio/written process recording activities as requestedAttends and contributes to Intern Group Supervision Meeting 2 hours per weekAttends VRP team meetings 2 hours per weekParticipates in Fenway Health BH Intern Training Seminars 1 hour every weekAttends on-site Department Meetings quarterlyMeets Agency Participatory ExpectationsAdheres to all agency and departmental policies and procedures as appropriate including but not limited to the following as not doing so would result in termination of internship:Attendance and PunctualityDiscrimination Harassment Sexual Harassment and Workplace Bullying PolicyOccupational Health GuidelinesParticipates in quality assessment and improvement activities as requestedAdheres to the highest principles of patient and client confidentialityAdheres to established safety policies procedures and precautions; identifies potential or actual unsafe situations in the environment and takes measures to rectify the situationAttends all required meetings in-services and professional trainingsAttends all regularly scheduled research meetings trainings forums and pertinent FCH staff meetingsMaintains professional competence necessary to perform job responsibilities; maintains and provides agency with records of continuing education activitiesPerforms other related duties as requiredRequirementsActive enrollment in a graduate degree program in related field (e.g. Social Work or Counseling) required Flexibility adaptability and ability to multitask1 (academic) year of counseling with clients and/or related experience at minimumSuccessful completion of graduate level course work focused on understanding human behavior basic counseling theoretical frameworks and basic diagnostic assessmentsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience working within an ethnically culturally and racially diverse team Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individualsAbility to demonstrate emotional regulation of self foresee impacts of emotional expressions on others (peers colleagues and patients) and modulate emotional expression accordingly to support rapport building and professionalism in shared workspacesAbility to receive process and respond to feedback in both individual and group supervision spacesPreferred Qualifications:Ability to document timely and accurately in fast-paced environmentsPrevious advocacy/case management experiencePrevious experience in outpatient therapy settingsPrior knowledge of impacts of domestic violence interpersonal violence and/or traumaExperience with LGBTQIA issues HIV and traumaExperience with substance use disorders short-term interventions and group workPhysical Requirements:Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:Sit at a computer station for extended periods of timeAbility to keyboard for extended periods of timeDocumentation to be Submitted with Application:In order to be considered complete application must include the following:Resume or CVList of graduate level course work completed2 letters of reference attesting to prior counseling and/or related experienceWriting SampleFor the Writing Sample: Please submit a paragraph or two setting up a case consultation on a hypothetical client in a multidisciplinary team meeting.
