Reports to:PrincipalDuty Day:187 DaysWage/Hour Status:ExemptPay Grade: Teacher Hiring ScheduleQualifications:Bachelors degree from accredited university Masters preferredReading and/or math specialization preferredValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assignedA minimum of four years of experience teaching reading/math preferredKnowledge of reading and/or math intervention strategiesAbility to administer and interpret diagnostic reading/math assessment instrumentsStrong organizational communication and interpersonal skillsPhysically able to monitor student discipline and progress and meet other student needs as requiredPhysically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instructionPrimary Purpose:Provide reading and/or math intervention to at-risk students.Administer diagnostic assessments to identify specific instructional needs of at-risk students and develop and deliver reading/math intervention plans to accelerate reading/math growth for students who qualify for At-risk according to the 13 state criteria.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Provide reading/math intervention to at-risk students most at risk of failing to attain grade level expectationsAdminister diagnostic reading/math instruments to students most at risk of reading/math failureInterpret diagnostic reading/math instruments to determine specific instructional needs of at-risk studentsDevelop instructional plans to meet the individualized needs of identified at-risk studentsMonitor reading/math progress of identified at-risk studentsUse technology to strengthen the teaching/learning processAssist classroom teachers in analyzing reading/math assessments and in designing and delivering reading/math interventionsParticipate in collaborative committees to make instructional and placement decision for struggling at-risk studentsProvide parent training on how to support childrens literacy and math development in the homeAttend on-going staff development in the areas of reading/math interventionCompile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents as requiredCreate classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of at-risk studentsManage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies administrative regulations and IEPs.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect at-risk students equipment materials andfacilitiesMaintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearlyDemonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsibleKeep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies for teachersAttend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as requiredArticulate the districts mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the missionDemonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvementEquipment Used:Computer FAX copier overhead projector DVD/VCR tape recorder and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.Working Conditions:Standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping bending pulling and pushing ie relocating stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment. The level of mobility required depends upon the grade level of teaching assignment(s) and requirements thereof.
