BOB-Manager of Design at City of New York

Civil Service Title- Assistant Civil EngineerUnder the direction of the Director of Design & Planning the Manager of Design assists with the coordination oversight and evaluation of design and construction activities within the BQE Design-Build and Emergency Contracts Unit and provide support to related construction activities. Specific duties and responsibilities: Serves as the primary communication link between Design/Planning and In-Field Construction activities. - Monitors and evaluates with some direction the performance of private consultants and contractors- Assists the Director of Design & Planning in the evaluation of complex design reports calculations design plans construction concepts and construction schedules- Assists in the development of Technical Specifications for Design-Build projects within the BQE Design-Build and Emergency Contracts Unit- Documents progress and technical conclusions through the preparation of written reports memorandums tabulated registers and presentations. - Performs technical reviews that all work undertaken is in accordance with Agency City State and Federal guidelines and requirements.Preferred SkillsSkill in analyzing and evaluating complex and highly technical data reports calculations and design plans related to bridge and highway projectsSkill in communicating verbally and dealing effectively with consultants utilities and individuals representing the agencies or organizations;Ability to supervise a staff of engineers in the planning organizing coordination and control of Design-Build projects and Emergency ContractsAbility to write clear and effective reports letters memos and correspondence;Familiarity and experience working in the Design-Build environment within transportation;Ability to work under pressure and meet restrictive deadlines;Ability to improvise and develop innovative solutions for unusual conditions arising in the field for Design-Build projects Emergency contracts and other specialty projects.Work Location 55 WATER ST MANHATTAN 10041Hours35Resumes may be submitted electronically using the following method: For City employees only go to Employee Self Service (ESS) Careers and Search for Job ID# 758008.
