CONGREGATIONAL OVERVIEW Trinity United Church of Christ (TUCC) is an Open and Affirming congregation passionate about social justice with a rich history of serving God in the Canton, Ohio community for 155 years. Our membership is over 400. We are seeking a part-time bookkeeper (approximately 15 to 20 hours per week) to replace our current Bookkeeper who is retiring. At the same time, we are making some significant changes to our QuickBooks set-up to streamline our processes. POSITION OVERVIEW The Bookkeeper has these major priorities: - Provide essential financial record-keeping and accounting support to our church's ministry, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with church policies, safeguards, controls, and Fund based accounting. - Close the books and create regular financial reports. - Manage donor database & contribution documentation. - Collaborate with staff, leadership, and volunteers, handling confidential information with integrity. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Receivables & Payables - Record weekly deposits and reconcile deposits with Financial Secretaries report. - Process accounts payable (bills, reimbursements, check requests) weekly and process bi-weekly payroll and taxes. - Identify and make recommendations for improvements to processes to build efficiencies and maintain safeguards and controls in the system. Reporting & Reconciliation - Reconcile multiple bank statements and church credit card statements monthly. - Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for church leadership and committees. - Assist with annual budgeting and audit processes. - Manage and file all financial documents and receipts for audit readiness. Donor Recordkeeping / Volunteer Collaboration - Issue contribution statements to donors and provide documentation as required. - Attend occasional finance committee meetings as needed. - Coordinate and archive church financial records. REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS - Prior experience in bookkeeping or accounting in a non-profit or church setting. - High level of QuickBooks proficiency. - Proficiency with office technology (email, Zoom) and proficient in Microsoft Office Suites. - Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality. - Understanding of fund accounting principles and IRS requirements for churches. - Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. - High school diploma or GED required, associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT - Part-time position (15-20 hours per week, Monday - Friday). Some flexibility required for occasional evening or weekend events. Reports to the Senior Pastor. - Office environment. - Occasional physical tasks such as moving file boxes and moving suppliers.
