The AECOM North Carolina Transportation team is seeking a Bridge Inspection team assistant to work in the Structures Department. This job involves assisting a certified bridge inspector in the inspection of in-service bridges across North Carolina. Bridge inspectors serve as the first line of defense in helping maintain and preserve Americas transportation infrastructure and serving on an inspection team is a challenging and rewarding career.Performs a variety of tasks in support of the engineering staff including but not limited to:Assisting in the visual inspection of bridge components such as decks superstructures and substructuresTaking accurate measurements and photographs of bridge elementsCollecting and organizing field data for report preparationMonitors and documents conformance with quality performance safety and/or code requirements:Identifies and reports potential structural deficiencies or safety hazardsEnsures compliance with OSHA safety standards and company safety protocolsMaintains accurate and detailed inspection recordsAssists with engineering calculations and data analysisPerforms basic structural calculations under supervisionUtilizes software tools for data entry and analysisAssists in the preparation of bridge inspection reports and documentationSets up and operates specialized inspection equipmentOperates non-destructive testing equipment as directedAssists in the use of access equipment such as under-bridge inspection vehiclesMaintains and calibrates inspection tools and equipmentDemonstrates a general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlinesAdheres to project schedules and timelinesCommunicates effectively with team members and supervisorsParticipates in team meetings and contributes to project planning discussionsPerforms routine duties competently within limits of experienceConducts routine bridge inspections under supervisionAssists in the preparation of inspection reports and documentationParticipates in ongoing training and professional development activitiesQualifications : Minimum Requirements: Bachelors Degree or Associate Degree plus 2 years of related experience or HS/GED plus 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or educationDue to the projects associated with this position a US Citizenship is requiredValid U.S. Drivers License required to visit project sites clients and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records reviewAbility and willingness to travel frequently (on average 10 days per month) including overnight travel across North Carolina and occasionally other areas within the southeast. Highway/Bridge ExperiencePreferred Qualifications: Experience in a related field such as but not limited to construction surveying engineering technician or military.
