The Bureau Chief (Coordinator on Aging) is responsible for the management of the Older Americans Acts programs through coordination with the nine Area Agencies on Aging to enable older adults (60 and older) to maintain an independent lifestyle in their homes and communities have access to education on aging issues and live in dignity by carrying out the functions and duties as required by the Act. The programs in this bureau include the Older Americans Act Supportive Services Nutrition Services Health Promotion through evidence-based programs and caregiver supports the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program Legal Services Developer Program State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Aging and Disability Resource Centers other discretionary grants such as Lifespan Respite and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition program for older adults.The Bureau Chief is also responsible for the Governors Advisory Council on Aging which has the mission to assist the governor and DPHHS in planning coordinating and operating of programs within state government that affect older adults of the state and identifying ways to improve the effectiveness of programs. The Governors Advisory Council on Aging also hosts the annual Governors Conference on Aging.
