FLSA Status: Non-Exempt - Seasonal Pay Range: $12.57-$15.71-$18.85

Position Summary:

Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Builds members and the community's understanding of the YMCA's impact.

This position provides leadership and direct supervision of a group of youth in a seasonal outdoor day camp setting. Provides positive engagement with youth in a safe, nurturing environment. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions:

  1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying Y's commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility, and responding to all members and community inquiries promptly.
  2. Strong desire to work with youth grades k-8.
  3. Assists in leading energizing, fun, culturally aware, safe, camp activities and field trips, as directed by the supervisor, to carry out the YMCA mission and goals.
  4. Provide direct supervision and instruction to camp participants following the camp guidelines.
  5. Active and informative communication with parents, coworkers, and Director in a timely manner.
  6. Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct including all YMCA emergency and safety procedures.
  7. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary and submit them to the Camp Director promptly. While reporting problems, complaints, or concerns of participants to the Camp Director in a timely fashion.
  8. Actively Participates in staff meetings, training, events, reviews, and other scheduled events.
  9. Maintains attendance records of campers in an orderly and efficient manner.
  10. You must be punctual and dependable, self-motivated, and can work independently or as a team member.
  11. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  12. Actively participates in all camp activities including swim, field games, dress up days, and Celebrations
  13. Has a professional and respectful working relationship with all coworkers.
  14. Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect.
  15. Ability to be flexible, self-motivated, and work as a team.
  16. Fulfills any other functions appointed by the YMCA administration.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 16 years of age.
  2. Must pass a background check and finger printing.
  3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living/education, music (instrumental or songs, dramatic arts, aquatics, sports/PE/recreational games, creative arts, etc.).
  4. Effective verbal communication skills
  5. CPR/First Aid/AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed prior to camp start date.
  6. Completed health form prior to start date.
  7. Earlier experience working with youth, preferably in a day camp setting, for 2 or more years is preferred.
  8. Behavioral management experience within a school, childcare, camp or parenthood.
  9. School credits or Certificates in Career and Technical Education program specifically Early Childhood Education is preferred.


Compensation details: 14.7-17.64 Hourly Wage
