AboutThe City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a qualified and experienced Capital Improvement Engineering Manager to oversee the planning development and administration of the Citys Capital Improvement Program. You can also explore our thriving downtown district filled with shops restaurants and entertainment options or take a stroll along the Cedar River which runs through the heart of the city .Cedar Rapids - Why you should live here!About this OpportunityPlans develops supervises evaluates and oversees the Engineering Divisions Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Coordinates with City departments and other governmental agencies regarding projects programs policies and funding.The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization.Position FunctionsJob Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversees Capital Improvement Program projects and budgetsCoordinates CIP projects with other City departments and serves as the departments liaison to respond to media contacts concerning CIP projectsSupervises the work of assigned personnel including assigning and reviewing work providing guidance and conducting performance evaluationsServes on district committee for the Statewide Urban Design and Specifications(SUDAS)organizationServes on the Transportation Technical Advisory Committee (TTAC) for the Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization.Suggests and assists in improving the quality of consultant professional services.Develops process improvementsDevelops and delivers presentations to City Council neighborhood associations business interests and general publicPrograms and budgets projects in Public Works 5-year Capital Improvement ProgramManages and coordinates public outreach efforts on CIP projects during design and construction. Responds to citizens questions and comments in a courteous and timely mannerPerforms related work as requiredQualificationsRequired Education and ExperienceBachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field andFive (5) to seven (7) years of experience in engineering design and specifications including engineering project management from project conception through construction completion orAn equivalent combination of education and/or experienceExcellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft OfficeAbility to work collaboratively with diverse populationsRequired Licenses or CertificationsLicensed Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa or ability to obtain within 6 months if licensed in another stateDesired QualificationsExperience with government agency coordination and State and Federal Grant ProgramsOrganizational leadership and management experiencePosition ScheduleMonday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pmEqual Opportunity/Affirmative Action StatementThe City of Cedar Rapids is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
