Job SummaryThe Carpentry and Paint Technician is responsible for constructing, repairing, finishing, and maintaining a variety of building structures, fixtures, and furnishings in residential and commercial settings. This position is open to both entry-level and experienced technicians. Employees in this role are expected to demonstrate craftsmanship, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Depending on experience, work may be performed independently or under supervision. Ongoing training and professional development will be provided to support skill growth and career advancement. Primary Responsibilities Carpentry Construct, install, repair, and maintain structures such as doors, windows, cabinets, partitions, floors, and frameworks in both residential and commercial settings. Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood, metal, or other materials using hand and power tools. Install and repair carpet, tile, baseboards, drywall and ceiling tiles to maintain clean and functional spaces. Perform basic concrete work, including mixing, pouring, finishing and repairing surfaces as required. Conduct roof maintenance and repair, including inspecting, sealing, and replacing damaged materials. Conduct pest control tasks, including the safe removal of bird nests, bee hives, and wasp nests using appropriate equipment such as scissor lifts or man lifts. Assemble, relocate and repair furniture, ensuring items are safely moved or stored as required. Painting Prepare surfaces for painting by washing, scraping, sanding, and priming to ensure proper adhesion. Apply paints, stains, varnishes, and other finishes to a variety of surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and sprayers. Repair and refinish walls, ceilings, trim, and other surfaces to maintain an even and professional appearance. Follow all safety and environmental procedures for handling and disposing of paints and chemicals. Maintain tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Student Supervision Oversee and manage daily tasks of student employees to ensure productivity and accountability. Assign projects and monitor progress to ensure accuracy and timely completion. Mentor, coach and provide constructive feedback to support technical and professional development. Design and conduct training programs to build technical and professional skills. Promote lifelong work habits such as integrity, dependability, effective communication, and professionalism. General Duties Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to plan and execute work. Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent. Collaborate and communicate clearly with engineers, supervisors, technicians, contractors, and campus personnel to ensure efficient facility operations and maintenance support. Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to after-hours emergencies. Follow OSHA safety standards, building codes, and university policies. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED required. 1-5 years of work experience in carpentry, painting or related trades preferred, but not required. Basic knowledge of construction materials, tools, and finishing techniques. Valid US Driver’s License required. SkillsStrong carpentry and finishing skills with attention to detail and craftsmanship. Knowledge of surface preparation, paint application methods, and finishing materials. Excellent problem-solving and time management skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Commitment to safety, accuracy, and high-quality workmanship. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work in varying environments (indoors, outdoors, attics, crawl spaces, etc).
