M-F 7:30AM - 4:30PM Work Location: University of Miami Hospital & Clinics - Lennar - Perioperative Services Full-Time JOB DESCRIPTIONUM Title: Ambulatory Certified Nursing AssistantJob Summary (Purpose and Function):Assists in patient care throughout nursing areas. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit. Uses concepts taught to solve problems operate sterilization equipment assemble and decontaminate surgical instrument and work in a surgical processing environment.Accountabilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):CNA Duties 20%1. Observes and reports patients status and needs2. Obtains weights vital signs and reports results3. Obtains specimens and transport to and sends designated department4. Operates all equipment in a safe manner.5. Alerts appropriate RN team members as emergencies arise or when changes in patient status are noted.6. Upon request is able to gather equipment that will be needed to control emergency patient care situations.7. Demonstrates age specific competencies.8. Participate in quality improvement initiatives.Processing Instruments 40%1. Demonstrates a surgical conscience by practicing aseptic technique at all times.2. Demonstrates a working knowledge of all required equipment instrumentation and supplies being utilized during the procedure.3. Initiates the decontamination process of the instrumentation equipment.4. Insures the care of specialty items.5. Verifies sterilization date and package integrity.6. Practice current principles associated with decontamination7. Clean and terminally disinfect instruments trays scopes and etc8. Identify instruments for immediate turn-around and assure their prompt cleaning9. Perform sterilization activities10. Perform and interpret biological chemical and mechanical indicators11. Complete all paperwork and documentation associated with sterilization12. Operate all equipment associated with decontamination and sterilization safely and as recommended13. Maintain sterile inventory14. Identify instruments and supplies15. Receive orders and dispatch instruments and supplies promptly16. Communicate instruments or equipment requiring repairs17. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment18. Recognize and report hazards19. Checking rooms on a daily basis supplying rooms20. Assist and perform related duties based on departmental needsClerical Duties all Areas 40%1. Responsible for clinical and clerical functions of the respective unit.2. Performs secretarial duties for the unit including but not limited to faxing copying mailing and typing any essential material.3. Answers telephone promptly and courteously using proper telephone etiquette and routes calls and messages appropriately.4. Ability to work both in the clinical and clerical setting5. Implements appropriate preventative measure for patients identified with safety risks (i.e. falls).6. Schedules follow-up appointments and consults ensuring patient has appropriate information and provide as needed.7. Schedules patients for labs diagnostic procedures OR and radiation treatment (i.e. CT MRI Bone Scan etc.) as ordered by physician.8. Retrieves and/or assists clinical personnel in retrieving diagnostic studies as needed.9. Retrieves and prints schedules for the next day.10. Make sure all charges are placed in a separate bin to be pick up daily for appropriate charges and reconcile charges 0Facility fee from with visits.11. Orders supplies for stock room12. Maintains area stocked with the necessary supplies and forms.13. Mail is to be picked up daily from the Mailroom.Professional Accountability1. Consistently maintain complete confidentiality of all medical financial employees computer and other sensitive materials which may violate HIPAA regulations and/or jeopardize the privacy of others.2. Acts as role model and maintain professional demeanor at all times.3. Develops and maintains clinical competency.4. Consults internal experts when appropriate.5. Maintains documentation of the continuing education requirements.6. Maintains CPR provider card.7. Attends all mandatory in-services as directed.8. Actively supports and participates in performance improvement activities9. Seeks/accepts training to learn new skills and maintain current competencies10. Maintains professional certifications/licensure in active status.11. Practices within the guidelines and scope of a certified nursing assistant12. Displays courtesy toward customers by introducing self and addressing customer by name.13. Meets customers expectation by listening to them demonstrating sensitivity and awareness of others.14. Follows through to ensure that established expectations are satisfied; keep customers informed of progress.15. Works effectively and cooperatively in groups/teams to ensure quality patient care.16. Communicates effective with manager and other members of the interdisciplinary team.17. Attempts to resolves patient/physicians and visitors complaints and refers unresolved issues to managers.18. Demonstrate dependability/reliability by promptly reporting to work when scheduled.19. Serves as mentor and role model20. Compliance with UM Hospital and department policies and procedures21. Other duties as assigned22.
